Industry Friends,
Please join us this Wednesday May 6th at 10:30 AM for a half hour zoom with Xavier Becerra to hear his plans to bring production back to LA. He’s my chosen candidate for a variety of reasons including years of experience and integrity as well as a deep understanding of our healthcare system which he ran during his tenure as Secretary of HHS. In a state that is 40% Latino it would be wonderful to have a Latino Governor as well. RSVP link in BIO

Storytelling IS our secret weapon.
Our January Book of the Month is “Freddy the Alien” by @jonathandelarco and Trisha DiFazio!
Based on Jonathan’s real-life immigration journey, “Freddy the Alien” is a heartwarming story about embracing who you are and finding your place in the world.
Read “Freddy the Alien” wherever you source your books and explore official discussion guides through the link in our bio.
What does it mean to be an “alien”? 👽✨
For actor and activist Jonathan Del Arco—best known as Hugh the Borg on Star Trek—the word carries a deeply personal double meaning.
“I’m an actor, and I ended up on Star Trek playing an alien,” Del Arco told the Buzz. “I wanted to use the double meaning of the word alien to share my story of feeling out of place as a kid—and then ending up being a successful actor playing one.”
That idea became Freddy the Alien, a children’s book inspired by Del Arco’s own experience immigrating from Uruguay to New York City and growing up feeling confused, invisible, and far from home. Like Freddy, everything begins to change when one caring teacher truly sees him.
Co-written with educator Trisha DiFazio, Freddy the Alien is a gentle, powerful story about empathy, identity, resilience, and belonging—and a reminder that being yourself is the bravest thing you can do. The book was recently named the Human Rights Campaign’s Book of the Month for January 2026.
📚 Jonathan Del Arco and Trisha DiFazio will be at Chevalier’s Books on Thursday, January 8, from 3–5 pm for a reading and book signing. The event is free. All aliens are welcome.

When I was in my early 30’s I hit a career dead spot and needed a day job to help pay the bills. By pure luck and with no political experiences I was hired as a staffer for a proposition campaign chaired by Rob Reiner.
I had no idea, that day, I had been accepted into a family in which Rob and Michele were the parental figures to a pack of young political talent, Chad Griffin, Dan Pfiffer Kristina Schake and many more. This experience changed me forever, it made me a better artist a more involved person and a political activist.
Through the past 26 years, since that day, I kept returning to work on several campaigns and causes the Reiner’s championed- marriage equality being the most personally memorable. Rob and Michele welcomed Kyle and myself into their home for fundraisers and celebrations in their expansive back yard, a place we gathered for fundraisers or to celebrate victories as we continued the struggle to make this country more fair.
At some point my acting career was back on track and I was doing a play that was well received, having seen the review in The LA Times Rob called me to say how proud he was- the simple gesture was so him. Though we didn’t see Rob and Michele very often we considered them
friends and in some ways parents, a feeling shared by so many today.
This loss feels personal but also universal- this loss at this time when goodness is at a shortage feels brutal. But as my friend Jordan Markwith reminded me last night, “we owe it to Rob and Michele to dig in and keep fighting. That’s how we honor them. That’s how we thank them. That’s how we remember them.”
But for now I think I’ll just go cry for a while.
What did the Borg get RIGHT? We talked about IDIC with @jerilryan and @jonathandelarco last week…

Before he was Hugh the Borg in Star Trek, Jonathan del Arco was a boy from Uruguay who just wanted to belong.
In a livestream with his friend and fellow Trek star Jeri Ryan and experts from the Roddenberry Foundation, Jonathan shared how his immigration story and journey as an actor inspired his children’s book, Freddy the Alien.
