Hatching @bakkerklaas.gent & @studio.mario.gent Two brands, one space, one shared foundation, inside @wintercircusghent . By day, Bakker Klaas is an open, artisanal bakery. By night, the same place becomes Studio Mario: wood-oven sourdough pizzas, wine, and aperitifs. The challenge was to design two distinct identities that clearly belong together. We built a shared visual system rooted in bold typography, character-driven illustration, and a carefully balanced color contrast. Different expressions. One coherent brand system. This project’s been quietly sitting on my hard drive for a bit, so I’ve been looking forward to sending it out into the wild. In 2024, @biclighter invited me to design a custom lighter set as part of their hashtag #shareyourflame artist collaboration series. The project arrived right in the middle of festival season and the brief immediately brought to mind the visual style of psychedelic rock. Two weeks before @usbynightfest last September, @rizon_parein DM’d me asking if I wanted to speak at the festival. I’ve been attending since the early days (2017), so my answer was obvious. If you joined the @adobe typography walk with @mutant.agency during @usbynightfest , you might’ve spotted these tote bags I designed for @adobelive The brief was “Belgian creative community,” which honestly was bit a tricky one at first. When people think of Belgium, the clichés of beer, fries, waffles… pop up really quickly. I felt there was something more meaningful to tap into, so I pictured a scene where hands are assembling the Atomium, Belgium’s most iconic landmark, as a metaphor for the Belgian creative community building things together. In 2024, I collaborated with @onthatass_official to design a Japanese-inspired pattern. Influenced by mythology, woodblock prints, and tactile textures, the artwork was developed into a repeat and applied to boxer shorts. Looking back, for me this became one of many highlights of last year in terms of illustration style and content. I really took the time with this one and to me this hits a sweet spot between chaos and carefully balanced composition (which is exactly what I love exploring). 🐲🇯🇵👹 For full transparency: the mockups were built using AI-generated base images, created with some training and compositional drawn input from me (basically using AI like a stock photo tool). From there, I Photoshopped everything in place for the final look. Influenced by traditional sailor tattoos and adventures at sea, the final artwork was turned into a seamless repeat and applied to boxershorts.
