An I N C Λ L C U L Λ B L E feeling this is. This feeling of relief and accomplishment, gratitude and happiness, hope and self worth. Some moments from my solo show “Magnificent Desolation.” |At the beginning of this year my spirit was broken in unimaginable ways. Ways that I thought would destroy my confidence as an artist/designer forever. But out of that excruciating pain and paralysis grew something I would’ve never imagined I could achieve. I am so proud of this collection I have created. 4 years of visions, prototyping and building a dream team. To my team, I could not have done it without you. (You know who you are. 🖤🙏🏽🕯️) THANK YOU!!!| Also, massive thanks to everyone who came to my opening and who has stopped by since. What fun it has been. The show will be up to view Fri,Sat,Sun’s thru Nov 30. Hope to see you. 🖤

SOUND ON: “And Then Our Time Here Was Done.” A short film I created for my current exhibition “Magnificent Desolation.” “Magnificent Desolation”is a body of work inspired by my love for Japanese brutalism, tea culture, futurism, metal/goth music culture and the quiet practice of sigil magick. As well as a little short film featuring my new Mahou Dining Table, Sasori Dining Chairs & intentionally crafted “Sigilabras”. Also including a very special sound experience in collaboration with my dear friends Linda & Michael of @dallasacid . On display Sat/Sun thru Nov 30 at my Marfa Studio. Address in bio. . . A bittersweet ending to such a special moment in time for me. I’m still so proud of how this collection turned out and even more proud of how my vision for the installation came together. Come out to take one last walk through my little goth zen garden, watch my short film in person one last time, have some sake and delicious little Japanese bites by @romi_golden_antler and celebrate the closing of my exhibition “Magnificent Desolation.” 🖤

Inside the Exhibition Jøna walked me through her exhibition, Magnificent Desolation, a collection she describes as furniture for a gothic teahouse on the moon. The work draws from her years living in desert artist communities across the Southwest, where the environment itself feels like architecture. Each piece feels like part altar, part utility and merges Japanese tea culture, Mexican brutalism, and the raw spirit of metal and goth music. Full film now on our YouTube channel, link in bio.

Opening Night You would never believe that just a few days ago, this was the same studio space. Jøna arrived looking like a surreal gothic goddess, greeted by family, friends, and locals who had all helped bring the show to life. You could feel how much this moment meant to her, and I was so happy to be there to celebrate it. By the end of the weekend, people were calling it their favorite show they saw all weekend. If you’re interested more details about the show and the pieces, send us a DM. . Full film now on our YouTube channel, link in bio.

All Hands On Deck The studio was busy all day as everyone came together to help finish the space. Friends came by to help, each with a role: someone welding, someone painting, someone installing vinyl (🙋🏻‍♀️)…It felt like the whole town showed up to make it happen. The Backstory Jøna and I have known each other for over a decade. We first met in the summer of 2015 at Arcosanti, an experimental community in the Arizona desert. Like many who find themselves in a place like that, we were both in big moments of change in our lives. That summer we worked side by side in the metal shop, learning how to weld together. In many ways, being here for the launch of her new collection feels very full circle. Full film now on our YouTube channel, link in bio.

It’s been years in the making. These ideas and visions, painstaking prototyping and processing of heavy materials. Moving and starting over more times than anyone should. It’s taken an army, a team and community to pull it all together. I’m can’t say enough how grateful I am for everyone who has helped me get here. Thank you to all and sorry if I’m forgetting anyone atm. My mind is jelly. Please come out and talk steel and concrete and drink sake with me. 🪐🖤🍶⚡️

My upcoming show, MΛGNIGICENT DESOLΛTION, is a continuation of the works I made for the @lyle.gallery “Metal” show last May in NYC. I’ve been working so hard on this collection, for 4 yrs to be exact, and I’m so proud of how each piece is transpiring. I’ve been dreaming of this volcanic moonrock-like “gothcrete” for a while now. I somewhat executed this on my last pieces but not to the expert mastery level that my dear friend @ottocrete was able to take it this past week. Beauty and darkness beyond what my imagination could’ve dreamt of. Otto and I met at Arcosanti in 2017. From the moment we met, there was not a day that went by for the next 3 yrs that we weren’t working on some sort of project together. Whether it be a multistory shade structure, a space reno, planting an entire field of grass for FORM, building a sculpture for burning man, many of a concrete counter top, etc. And now..more table tops, chair seats, and 1200 lb daybed (thank you @e.galbicka for bringing my design to formwork). I learned everything I know about specialty concrete work from Otto. He is a talented architect and now specializes in rammed earth construction. I couldn’t be more grateful to be pouring together again and having him as part of the Jøna Maaryn Studio team. So much thanks to his beautiful and talented wife @pappas.pads for also making the trip out from AZ and taking this video reveal of the dining table top for my show. My very genuine reaction says everything about how I feel right now. Grateful, giddy and “obsessed.” 😁🖤 To my husband and manager @malcolmduncanyolo , you have made it possible for me to finally take my work to the next level. Not only by handling logistics so I can focus on creative but by believing in me, wholeheartedly, as an artist/designer. Especially when outside forces are making me question my value/worth, skillsets, education and purpose in this world. Thank you for showing up for me in a way that no one else has. I love you. And @francis_benton , huge thanks for helping flip this monster of a daybed. Quite the nail biting task you handled w ease. Chinati Wknd: Oct 10 | Studio Cinco | 208 W El Paso St | Marfa, TX | 6-8.

I have the best team yall! 😭 MVP of the week, my dear friend @ottocrete , who came all the way from Phnx to help me pour a shit ton of goth concrete for my upcoming show on Oct 10 in Marfa,TX. Huge thanks to my lifeline/manager @malcolmduncanyolo (Non of this is possible without you), to @pappas.pads for being @ottocrete ’s lifeline, to @_kikobenton for your otherworldly forklift skills, @kirishandkirish for laughs and support, and @e.galbicka for daybed formwork wizardry. Here we have a week of heavy processing. 🖤
