It’s been awhile since the last time I was on an actual skate tour. Recently I had the opportunity to hop on the second leg of The Red Brick Run @adidasskateboarding x @thrashermag tour and assist with shooting. Sharing a landlocked wave with that crew was an honor, they’re such an awesome collection of skaters.

Pretty sure this was end of 95, right after I graduated from high school. It was the one and only time I got to point the camera at Phil. I think it’s safe to say that for all of us who skated the SR park, he was the best. “The best”, like you wished you could skate like him, and “the best” he was just a good person. I like to imagine an alternate reality where he wasn’t in that accident and he stayed on Emerica and eventually we got to work together. It would’ve been a dream come true

Before we wrap up 2025 I want to take the chance to get this out there.
When Ben McQueen hit me up about doing a Let It Kill You episode it was all very serendipitous in terms of the timing, under most circumstances I would have passed on this opportunity. I had the time and space, and was on the tail end of shaking off a long term pill addiction. Anybody who’s experienced that understands the force of that push/pull to be honest. Despite feeling terribly uncomfortable speaking on camera about such personal matters, the combination of wanting to come clean and being in the middle of a profound unpacking of a blurry past two decades, compelled me to say yes to his offer. For once I wanted to attempt to face the camera and it took a saint like Ben for me to feel composed enough to do so. His manner and overall calm demeanor, especially in an interview process, helped create an environment for me to come to terms with those fears.
