John Simon Co presents a graduation collection under ESSI that reimagines military dress through a contemporary ready-to-wear lens. Influenced by years spent studying beside Malacañang Palace and observing the presence of the Philippine Army, the work also reflects a personal connection to his late father’s unrealized dream of joining the service. Referencing World War–era uniforms from different countries and the everyday camouflage seen across Manila’s streets, the collection blends structure and emotion—drawing narrative inspiration from Atonement and the idea of a soldier holding onto the promise of returning home. Techniques such as pleating, embroidery, layering, and paneling shape garments that balance utility with storytelling, capturing resilience, longing, and commitment within functional silhouettes.
