A quick tour through “Sum of Its Parts,” that closed a month from today at @childsgallery in Boston. The series combines inspiration from Baroque still-life painting and the fragmented statues of antiquity. By presenting body parts as objects—arranged, isolated, or separated across canvases—I’m exploring how fragments can suggest presence, history, and identity..The show takes its name from Aristotle’s line, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” a reminder that no single piece or snapshot can capture a life in full..The show was on view November 21, 2025–January 18, 2026. I’m excited to announce my show “IF THESE WALL COULD TALK: Portraits of Homes in the Pines” opens in two weeks! It will be showing at the @vstrscenter in Fire Island July 9–22, 2025..“If These Walls Could Talk” shifts my focus from bodies to buildings—from portraiture of people to portraiture of place. These paintings of the Fire Island Pines homes explore memory, identity, and queer history. Though the figures are gone, the houses remain—witnesses to decades of joy, secrecy, and transformation. As a gay man, I see these structures as keepers of our stories.
