The TLDR is… I was so mad at myself for losing to them at a pointless awards thing then embarrassing myself that I stubbornly didn’t listen to a band for several years until I realised they were the best band ever. I am an idiot basically.

Chip Shop Summer

*TLDR: Biggest job of my year disappeared thanks to admin issues so I’m taking some time to get back to filmmaking for me.* … A couple of weeks ago I found out that the biggest job of my year (one I’ve been producing for the last 6 years since it’s inception) had been handed over to a new agency. I didn’t do anything wrong. My work on the project over the years is some of my best and was always on brief, on time and on budget. What happened? Long story short; a boring client-based contracting issue with my agent (completely out of my hands) saw the job arbitrarily handed over to another agency who already have their own freelancers in place. 2 months work (block booked out) gone in 24 hours. 6 years of ‘above and beyond’ work forgotten in a puff of smoke. I’ve worked with that client for nearly a decade. Obviously this sucks. But it’s just the kind of thing you have deal with on the regular as a freelancer. So anyway… rather than run around desperately begging for work to fill the gap (very tempting) I’ve decided to take the time instead to get back into some abandoned personal projects. Back to my “art”. Of course I can’t afford to do that indefinitely… but that in itself will serve as the kick up the bum I need to get something done. Also gives me a chance to share my favourite quote of all time. A vital artistic motto to live by whether it strictly applies to my situation here or not. It’s been too long since I did something for ME. Something that can’t just be passed on to the next person in the email contact list. Time to get to it.
