Mark your calendars for Esther's campaign launch party for District 3 on May 9th! I'm proud to be working on Esther's run for Portland City Council. She is the type of person we need more of in elected office - she's a bridge builder, listener, creative thinker, brilliant artist, and someone who (sadly rare in politics) has the capacity to admit when she is wrong and change course accordingly. She is a dear friend of mine and someone I trust with all my heart. Portland would be in the best of hands with her. We are running a campaign to re-ignite the civic spirit of Portland and want it to be participatory - to that end, for the party we are taking suggestions from the public that we will read on stage as well as do live Q&A's. The prompt is: How Do We Heal Portland? Send your suggestion responses either to the campaign Instagram or email listed on the flyer! The musicians featured reflect the ethos of the campaign - empathetic perspective, creative out-of-the-box thinking, and the lifting of all boats in the community. They are amazing humans. There will be a potluck throughout the day so bring a dish and/or drinks if you're able! FREE ENTRY event - All Ages Saturday May 9th Outdoors Noon - 8pm 1322 SE 60th Ave @foxwalkermusic @strangeandthefamiliars @urjunglecorp @trollhartpiano @montedelamusica @wesley.the.moth @cabotaaage @calebandthemonsters @amberrussellmuzic @scottallencello @oracle_bone_music @blazingsunsmusic @ryankwanpottery

Monthly letter writing meetup at @honeylattecafe is every last Monday (this month April 27th) - come write handwritten letters with us! Materials provided, but bring some to share if you can. If you haven't written a letter in a long time, trust me, the dopamine hit is at least 10x higher than a text or email! Free event, 7-9pm, come find us at the reserved table!

It's the 15th (!!!) Paired by Poetry at the one and only @rose_city_book_pub ! For this one I'm time shifting a bit, now going from 5-10pm, so if you've got an early Monday morning you can go to bed at a reasonable time! The lineup for this bill is full of humans that will ignite your mind and inspire your heart. The poems and stories told will never be told the same way again, as the musicians always add a backing that can't be replicated. If you're looking for a night of creative inspiration, this is it! Free event! Sunday 4/26 5-10pm

It's hard to believe it's been 6 months since I first started hosting these at @rumblecollectivepdx . I really look forward to this gathering every month. We start by going over some ground rules of engagement and then do a question prompt as an ice breaker to get to better know one another. Then we go around the circle and ask - how's it really going? It's a container where people can be truly seen and heard. I appreciate how kind, supportive, and real the energy has been. There is a lot happening for people internally and externally. The more we can *see* one another and not be alone, the better off we will be. This month will be on 4/25 from 4-6pm. Capacity is limited given time constraints and size of the space, so hit me up if you want to attend.

Some of you may have heard that our dear friend of the community, 3 Hand Stephen, recently departed this planet. Stephen was a beautiful soul who deeply cared about other people while simultaneously not caring about how others might judge him. He could uniquely be nothing other than his whole self. He lived in a present tense mindset and would always show up for others. His music and musings reflected a kind and curious mind. He was one of the least judgemental people I've known. He was so supportive of others in the community and always willing to collaborate and teach. I'll miss the stories he would tell me of being a TriMet bus operator for almost 20 years - a true public servant. We all love and will miss you dearly, Stephen. You touched the hearts of so many of us.

Fun fact about your Portland District 3 City Council Candidate: I am highly involved in the local arts scene, including performing theater, music, and poetry readings. Here I am on stage @clinton_street_theater in the @monkeywaho 10 Minute Play Festival, with my husband, Jeremy, and my now Campaign Manager/Policy Advisor, @john.a.carter (who also made the original artwork on my website!) Picasso once said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” I could not agree more. Art is the lifeblood of Portland. It weaves this community together, and makes this city so much more vibrant than just another metropolitan space. We need art to feed our souls now more than ever. Yet, it is nearly impossible to make a living wage as an artist. That is why I am proposing we explore what a universal basic income for Portland’s artists could look like. I am also calling on local government to establish AI regulations that protect artist job demand and original creations. #theater #arts #ai #universalbasicincome #portland

**Door price is now $10** For the next "Something to Say" on April 12th we've got a great lineup that is raising money for @urbangleanerspdx , a group that is committed to reducing waste around food distribution and ensuring healthy food is accessible to all. The day before is my birthday! So I figured my band would play for this one. After a brief hiatus, the Salads are back on a regular rehearsal schedule! 🥗🤘🥗 Seriously this lineup is going to be something special. We have: Rabbit Venom Seismic Standard JC & His Salads Xylem & Monte There will be a very special secret guest performance as well! You gotta come to find out who it is. Sunday 4/12 5pm - 8pm at one of my favorite venues, Rose City Guitar Company. No one turned away for lack of funds, so just let me know to put you on the list.

Tomorrow (Monday 3/30) is the first monthly letter writing club that my partner @emilylichtenberg.art and I are co-hosting! Writing letters is one of the most connective, meditative, and artful forms of communication there is. To read someone's handwriting is to see a more human part of them. The slowness of it as a medium makes it more thoughtful and less reactionary. I believe we can use a little more snail mail in our lives. I treasure the letters I receive from people. I keep them. I want to write more letters. This helps Emily and I stick to the practice as much as it helps you and builds a community around it. Letter writing is also a form of resistance. It resists the forces that want to dehumanize society and envelop us more deeply in the machine that fuels the separateness from each other and the natural world that sustains us. So join us every last Monday of the month at @honeylattecafe from 7-9pm. Write letters to your lovers, write letters to your friends, write letters to your family, write letters to those alive or passed on, write letters to your politicians, write letters to anyone or anything for which you want to be heard and seen. We will provide some materials and I will also bring some stamps but please bring your own materials to share as well! Look for us at the reserved table.
