Here’s a flashback to a recent event where I got to preview the JWTN band to a limited audience.
I’m still building and perfecting this set with my band and team, and trust me when I say I can’t wait to put on a big show for you all.
Y’all get out and be the scene this weekend! Maybe I’ll see you out there.
Time is weird, man. Sometimes I feel like I’ve accomplished a lot and sometimes I feel like I’ve barely gotten started.
A lot of y’all might not know that I used to almost exclusively rap/DJ/produce dance music and barely played guitar on stage for like 7 years.
But here I am in one of my proudest moments, playing Stubb’s Amphitheater solo as Flavor Raid during the first ever Hot Summer Nights. It was a vibe.
Technically Flavor Raid is still alive… but JWTN has no self imposed limits, so this type of thing is not off the table. One thing at a time. Just sayin’.
Here’s a pic of my brand new band called Pyramid Scheme. Our first show is this Saturday in the church basement. NO ALCOHOL allowed.

Was doing this photo shoot with @rosecoloredstudios_atx and I was like “hey take one where I’m like ‘hey guys, let’s cut the crap and get to playin’ the blues’” like some kinda Jimmy Vaughan album you dug up from your uncles old CDs.
I call this photo “Just Talkin’ Blues”.
This photo alone should get me booked on the next Blues On The Green, surely. (Psst @bluesonthegreen )
“So many beautiful people running around and doing the thing,
So many beautiful people polishing crowns and kissing the ring,
I think I love this town
I think I love this town.
So many passionate people following trends and chasing their dreams,
So many miserable people counting their ends and making them meet,
I think I hate this town
I think I hate this town
Yeah!
Love and hate
In the city of love and hate
I’ve tried, it feels great
In the city of love and hate”
This is a song I’ve had the concept of in the back of my mind every time I visit my hometown and come back to Austin.
Thanks to @kickbuttcoffee for the fabulous video content and @starfirepresents for booking us.
Joe With The Notes came up next and kept things moving in a different direction. By that point the room at Kick Butt Coffee was fully engaged, and he stepped in with a set that felt a little more stripped down but still carried real presence.
There’s something about a performance like that in the middle of a stacked lineup — it pulls people in a little closer. The focus shifts to the songwriting, the delivery, and the connection with the room. He didn’t need a wall of sound to hold attention either. The set had a steady flow, and people stayed with it.
It worked as a reset without losing momentum. Gave the day a breather in the right way, while still keeping the energy intact for everything that followed at the Starfire Fest HAAM benefit.
