TONY HAWK ANIMAL KINGDOM PROTOTYPE
Incase you missed the revel video of this amazing piece of history, check out my previous post from yesterday where you’ll hear more about this amazing and unique piece of history.
What is so incredible about this deck, is that it is literally the only deck that is a literal snapshot in time, at the peak of when skateboarding was transitioning from unique, rider-shaped decks into the cookie-cutter popsicle stick decks just two years later. To have Tony Hawk’s input and notes adding the two sets of holes as the truck size changed, to the width and shape of the deck after testing out the shape is incredible. And of course, the provenance is amazing, and even the guys at Powell Peralta realized the significance as it hung on the office walls along with other historically significant and notable decks among the many the company made over the years. This prototype resulted in the Hawk Scratch Prototype (with double set of truck holes, slightly narrower, and more rounded nose!!). And as many know, the Hawk Scratch was never released and ultimately this board shape resulted in the ‘Hawk Vert’.
This Animal Kingdom prototype is an amazing piece of art, and the candid note from Tony referencing Gonz is super cool. To hear the story from Ed Economy of how he revealed the handwritten note is amazing!! It makes you wonder whether it was Tony, someone within Powell Peralta like Stacy or George who didn’t want it to get out that Tony liked other things rather than skull and bones, or whatever. It’s truly a mystery as to why Tony’s notes had been painted over. Anyway, there is a lot more to discover about the history of this deck and I’m sure Tony, Chris Miller, Sean Cliver, Sean Mortimer, and others who put their hands on this deck could tell more.
Swipe for evolution pics of what this prototype was to become.

Finally got my Jeff Grosso personal rider displayed in this sick custom display case courtesy of Corbys Custom Framing. I added the LED lighting and the rotational motor. This was Jeff's only pro model during his short time with Schmitt Stix. The 1986 Ragdoll or Toy Blocks. Art by @lucero_rip . See one of my earlier posts from a few weeks ago for more details on this rad piece of history. #grosso #loveletters #ragdoll #grossosucks #legend

Almost there...Coping is all that's left. Well, plus a few tweaks here n there. Really thinking about doing custom concrete bullnose tiles for this end of the bowl.

Progress on the modifications are going well. Near completion. Just some decking and coping left to do.

Might as well stick with the same theme.....Another Jeff Grosso personal rider authenticated by pictures, videos, and Jeff himself. One of the raddest graphics of all time and a serious piece of skateboarding history. 1987 pro model "Demon" by Santa Cruz. The art by Jim Phillips and the graphic is inspired/"borrowed"/based on art piece "Mrs. Amworth" from Virgil Finlay. Be sure to read the text conversation in picture two. Jeff Grosso personal rider. Jeffs one and only pro model during his short time with Schmitt Stix. Chicken Scratch topside. Horns painted on the Ragdoll. The six pointed star etched into the head. And some of Jeff's writing on the topside. Authenticated by Jeff's wife Vanessa Grosso. Swipe 👈👉 to see the letter that Vanessa included with the deck. It's a cool write up. Thank you @cj_le_page for the opportunity to add this deck to my collection. And thank you Vanessa for the letter. Your husband was adored by so many. Rip Jeff Grosso. 🙏
