Stratum - by Joe Adsett Stratum sees the relationship of bold, monolithic forms, high ceilings, and extensive glazing. Named after its many formal layers, the bespoke linear brick selection became a focal point of the home, creating a strategic datum throughout the house that was critical to the overall architectural composition. Clifftop by Joe Adsett Perched at the edge of the landscape, Clifftop is a bold expression of sub-tropical modernism — a residence where sculptural form, expansive glazing, and raw materiality come together in dramatic harmony. Defined by sweeping lines and cantilevered geometry, the architecture frames uninterrupted views and invites natural light deep into the home. Inside, warm textures and refined detailing soften the strength of the structure, creating a balance between power and serenity. A home grounded in its setting, elevated by design, and crafted with precision. Ancroa by Joe Adsett Inspired by the curves of modern yachts, the building’s form glides across the sloping site gracefully delineating the internal spaces from the outdoor spaces. The ground level provides access to the garage, master bedroom & main entertaining areas with views from each space. The second living and ancillary bedrooms are located on a lower level providing structural stability and anchoring the cantilevering form over. The sculptural roofscape over the ground floor provides opportunities for double height spaces over main living areas and the master bedroom. #JoeAdsettArchitects #Ancora #SubtropicalModernism #CoastalArchitecture #AustralianArchitecture #LuxuryLiving #ModernArchitecture #DesignExcellence #Archilovers #ArchitectureHunter

Modelle by Joe Adsett The rennovation and expansion effort combine a stateliness together with a nod to the traditional, both in form and in the finished used throughout. The lighter and more familiar timber features are combined with the introduction of heavier mansonry elements to anchor the home in place, as well as being a gesture of passivity and living lightly. A crafted approach sees patterning such as the herringbone timber floors combine the exisiting and new areas, providing a textured foundation that binds both eras. A mostly monochromatic palette then provides a timeless backdrop of natural stone, plaster, timber, steel and glass to facilitate and elevate the rituals of daily life, while ensuring an outward looking approach. While sitting as a compliment to the existing Queenslander home, the new adds its own signature and proposes a new identity of the expanded home in the process: Photography: @andymacpherson Builder: @graya #subtropicalmodernism #australianarchitecture #designexcellence #luxryliving #architecturehunter #archilovers #designinspiration #modernaustraliandesign #brisbanearchitecture #timelessdesign #dreamhome

Centurion by Joe Adsett As a balancing of elements, the rectilinear forms feel deliberately open and transparent through expressed connections out into the surrounding natural aspect. A sense of restraint underpins the design and further creates a feeling of calm through a controlled simplicity and refinement. Using such a specific palette, the experience of the home becomes enriched, where a consistency in tone and finish binds the spaces, and the multiple levels. While one edge of the home directs focus to the view in the distance and out over the treetop canopies, an additional Japanese inspired courtyard space sits on the other side of the building form. Walled in on each side, the carefully manicured space represented a more enclosed gesture of calm, inward facing. The contrast between open and closed, and heavy and light elements conjures an equilibrium - where a combined sense of relaxed and disconnected moments defines the home in its entirety. Kirkwood by Joe Adsett A bold interplay of form and light, Kirkwood embodies the essence of sub-tropical modernism — sculptural, refined, and deeply connected to its landscape. Defined by strong lines and softened by natural materiality, the architecture balances openness and privacy, creating a residence that feels both grounded and serene. Every element has been considered — from the rhythm of the façade to the warmth of timber detailing — resulting in a home that is timeless in character and effortless in living. #JoeAdsettArchitects #KirkwoodByJoeAdsett #SubtropicalModernism #AustralianArchitecture #DesignExcellence #LuxuryLiving #ArchitectureHunter #Archilovers #DesignInspiration #ModernAustralianDesign #BrisbaneArchitecture #TimelessDesign #DreamHome

Bianco by Joe Adsett Sitting sculpturally as it nestles into the landscape, Bianco becomes a statement of boldness in place, carving its own identity in the process. Oriented to optimise the northern aspect and the enviable views outward, the forms coalesce with purpose across the site, elevated and peeking out into the distance. The arrangement of spaces within an ‘H’ formation ensures an increased outer edge, increasing opportunities for engagement beyond the building itself. As a gesture of legacy, the home is anchored to the terrain through its weightedness and its expanse, ensuring a resilience to time as a reflection of its multi-generational custodians. Imagined remaining in place for many years, a focus on the timeless coming together of form and materiality create a calm and removed retreat, ensuring a consistent relevancy is evident throughout, while nuances of luxury elevate the everyday. #JoeAdsettArchitects #BiancoByJoeAdsett #SubtropicalModernism #AustralianArchitecture #DesignExcellence #LuxuryLiving #ArchitectureHunter #Archilovers #ModernAustralianDesign #TimelessDesign #DreamHome

Cliffhanger by Joe Adsett With unrivalled views of the expansive landscape, Cliffhanger seamlessly connects a masculine edge with soft material choices. Situated on an expansive, grassed sloping site, the form of the building is overwhelmingly comprised of off-form concrete and masonry construction. The composition of the house is deceivingly simple. In essence, the building exists as a folded concrete shell, balanced carefully upon blockwork foundations that anchor into the sloping topography below. The cantilever of the folded concrete element is further dramatized by the angled natural. The design features an impressive 6.5 metre concrete cantilever and full-height glazing along entire eastern façade, to embrace the panoramic views from the crest of the Great Dividing Range. Haze — by Joe Adsett Perched on an elevated ridgeline with views to the Brisbane skyline, Haze is a sculptural expression of elegance and restraint. The residence is defined by its sweeping, curved forms and finely detailed materiality, with soft off-form concrete and warm timber battens wrapping the façade in rhythmic harmony. A generous central void anchors the home, drawing light deep into its core and framing the lush, elevated gardens beyond. Inside, the palette is richly textured yet calming—anchored by natural stone, oak and bronze accents—imbuing a sense of quiet luxury throughout. Oriented to embrace both the view and privacy, the plan balances openness with intimacy, offering immersive connections to nature at every turn. Haze is a celebration of subtropical living, where considered design meets elevated craftsmanship to deliver a home that is both grounded in place and effortlessly refined. #JoeAdsettArchitects #HazeByJoeAdsett #SubtropicalModernism #AustralianArchitecture #DesignExcellence #LuxuryLiving #ArchitectureHunter #Archilovers #DesignInspiration

Arcos by Joe Adsett Entry into the home takes place through a dramatic, softly-lit arched tunnel of rendered concrete. Emerging on the other side, visitors are met with a series of awe-inspiring interior and exterior spaces. While the house has a sense of grandeur, comfort reigns supreme. With its lofty spaces, grand proportions and welcoming curves, this is a house in which to spread out, and entertain family and friends. The rendered concrete arches on the lower level of the house play upon the existing structural rhythm of the Queenslander, as do the lightweight materials used on the upper storeys. The weatherboard façade of the existing house makes an appearance from the street front, where it protrudes above the arched entranceway. Inside, the Queenslander is forgotten, and the curve is king. The interior’s arches, curves and columns reference the Spanish Revival style of the architecture, while also giving the spaces a sense of loftiness and allowing for plenty of natural light. The most significant curve is the sweeping staircase that links the three floors together and provides opportunities for interesting play of light on the rendered concrete walls. Vault by Joe Adsett Perched on the soft rolling hills of Tallebudgera valley, sits the Vault house. Emulating a sculpture in the landscape, the house is punctuated by a strong arched external skin that hugs the main living spaces on the ground floor. From this emerges two timber clad/screened forms that are home to the more private areas of the house. Once inside, the house reaches out to the surrounding landscape, pool terrace and tennis pavilions through a series of meandering stone paved paths. Internally, the house is a series of open space living areas which are punctuated by a central spiral staircase and timber joinery pods, with each space having it's own unique connection to the landscape beyond. #JoeAdsettArchitects #Vault #SubtropicalModernism #AustralianArchitecture #ConcreteArchitecture #ModernArchitecture #DesignExcellence #ArchitectureLovers #Archilovers #LuxuryLiving
