The Boston Teachers Union is full of colleagues like mine, who deeply care about children and are incredibly committed to providing our students with a fantastic education. In our next contract, we are fighting for inclusion done right and living wages for our paraprofessionals. Students with IEPs and our multilingual learners deserve to be taught by special education and ESL teachers. We cannot simply rely on classroom teachers to wear yet another hat. Additionally, as the cost of living continues to increase, we must pay paraprofessionals a living wage. Our paraprofessionals are absolutely crucial to the success of our schools, and they deserve to be compensated fairly and competitively.
