July 1st, my birthday. I’m 34. It’s also Canada Day. Funny enough, this year, I’m celebrating both as I cross our northern border for the first time!
I’ve been out again with
@alastairgreene on our 6th tour of the year. This time, opening for the b-b-b-bad
@georgethorogoodofficial if you can believe it. By the end of July, I’ll have spent about 14+ weeks on the road so far this year. Still trying to wrap my head around that. I feel like I still haven’t fully downloaded everything I’ve experienced this past year, it feels like so much.
Social media is still a drag, but I do have much to be thankful for professionally speaking. Prior to this run, we got to share a bill with
@duarte.rocks and
@krislager as we criss-crossed through the Midwest and Northeast; before that, we opened for
@lauracoxofficial all around Germany, even making stops in the Netherlands and Austria; we spent a week playing in the UK before flying to Europe; April was desert, mountains, Pacific Ocean; March was hot. Florida is hot, especially when the AC goes out.
I’m so grateful for the exceptional kindness and generosity of the people we’ve traveled and shared the stage with. It’s a blessing to be able to draw inspiration from people who are not only talented performers, musicians, professionals, but also wonderful humans. I know that can’t always be a given so it means a lot. A few of them I’ve called friends for years, many of them I’m lucky to call friends now!
Alright, one final thought: I never do birthday posts. In fact, this might actually be my first one ever. But, this is my 10th year at this whole “musician” thing. Ten years since I decided I wanted to try playing again, maybe even seriously this time. Ten years since I decided on bass. Ten years since I bought that bass! I’ve grown so much in that time. Done so much that I’m proud of. I’m grateful for every beautiful thing that’s happened to me, good and bad.
One day, I’ll share more photos and thank yous for the all the people that have made these past few months such an adventure. For now, I’m gonna call it a night and get some rest. Thank you for everything! Yes, you.
