Ultimately it was about having a healthy relationship to self (doing your own work to be in your own alignment) and how that plays out to then have aligned authentic relationships with others... In stress it’s so normal and human to regress. It can feel so defeating to have old habits we thought we have “conquered” come back and hit us hard this past month. Deep breath here... we did not all undo the growth we’ve had.⠀ ⠀ What’s your regression like? Is it excessive Ben & Jerry’s, numbing through social media, avoidance of self or others, pleasing/ lacking boundaries, poorly expressed anger, online shopping escape, controlling others, controlling ourselves (discipline gone wrong), drinking without consciousness... ⠀ ⠀ How did you cope with pain as a child? Is there any correlation to the ways you’re coping now? Those first neural pathway connections to how we self-sooth are so powerful. ⠀ ⠀ It is with the utmost shame-free respect for ourselves that we can start to loosen the grip to any harmful ways we cope...⠀ ⠀ Repeat with me: “I am a human being who has had and is now going through real pain. I extend loving kindness and grace to myself for ___________.” ⠀ ⠀ Destructive coping and addiction doesn’t go away through shaming and self-bullying. Sending loving compassion and understanding to our pain and humanity does. 🙏🏻💛
