Flowers at the heart of the human experience.
Symbolic at the core of human rituals and ceremony.
The Mayday Hawthorn
Hawthorn or the “May tree,” has long been linked with May Day and Beltane celebrations. Its white blossom symbolised renewal, fertility, and the arrival of summer, while in British and Irish folklore the tree was associated with fairies and thought to bring bad luck if disturbed.
Hawthorn also marked the changing season, reflected in the saying “Cast ne’er a clout till May be out,” referring to the appearance of the May blossom. Young leaves and flower buds, known as “bread and cheese,” were traditionally eaten fresh in salads.

Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral
Back in the north and to one of our favourite buildings the iconic Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.
AWE personified in its bold circular architecture designed by Edwin Lutyers and spectacular stained glass panels and iconic lantern designed by John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens . Known as the “Crown of glass” light and colour flood the central altar as vast swathes of the walls are also painted with rich reds, purples, blues and yellow.
Light and colour bathing at its best !!
