đ Award winners! On Sunday, Albert received the award for âBest Historical Shortâ at @newrenaissancefilmfestival . Our first festival selection, and first win! Iâm absolutely over the moon and so proud of the team.
Accepting the award, I said a few words about how we could not have got the historic side of this film right without the incredible help from our Historical Supervisor @cjtostevinhall , @guernseymuseums , @nationaltrustofguernsey and kindness of the land and property owners who provided locations.
Not only that, but our dedicated cast and crew, across all departments helped glue it all together and worked tirelessly to depict 17th Century Guernsey with the greatest accuracy possible and bring my vision for the film to life.
The film was also made possible by @guernseyarts , Ivy Gate Films, and @visitguernsey .
Guernsey Arts and Ivy Gate Films presents âAlbertâ.
The Island of Guernsey, 1690. As echoes of the islandâs intense witch trials linger, recluse farmer Sarre must quickly hide his connection to the forces of nature before itâs too late.
Based on a folk tale dating back to 18/19th centuries about the grimoire Le Petit Albert, this short film written and directed by Joshua G. R. Fletcher searches for the truth in the myth and explores the fight between nature and order, witchcraft and religion.
Tickets are available now for the filmâs Guernsey Premiere at St James Concert Hall on Thursday 12th March. The event is FREE courtesy of sponsors @islands.insure and @stjamesgsy .

One of my favs I took on the set of ALBERT. 1st AC @maxbffomin doing the finest of work measuring up focus for one of our more complex setups. Timed it perfectly to get a smirk out of @cameronashplant straight down the barrel.

Thanks to those who have already donated! We are about 30% closer to our goal which is amazing.

13 for 13 (on Friday 13th ofc)
As we say goodbye to number 13, I had to relive some of the amazing memories and moments weâve had there and commemorate the place we literally first met đ¤
From moving in for â3 weeks for lockdownâ and never leaving, to the many, many parties, prides, halloweâens and Christmases, bringing Pepper home, sliding down the spiral staircase (a lot) and a whole lot of love - 13 you have been a blast.
Now onto a new chapter đ đ
I spoke with @darcykatekelly today on @bbcguernsey to chat influences, the goat PTA, how hard it is to actually make films and where things are at with Albertâs Guernsey Premiere. Spoiler⌠we need a sponsor to make it happen! If thatâs you, please get in touch!

"I had never worked on a period drama before, so I was excited by the chance to create something that truly felt 'of its time' and deeply connected to its landscape. From the beginning we wanted the visual tone of the film to reflect both the harshness of the era and the elemental struggles faced by our protagonist.
"Iâm a huge fan of Jarin Blaschkeâs work, which I used as constant inspiration when creating moodboards and other visual references."
Andrew Butler explains how he used the atmospheric setting of Guernsey to bring a centuries-old tale to modern audiences with short film Albert.

đĽBolex + Kodak Double X 16mm film đď¸
Last year @jgrfletcher and I spent an afternoon at @coppersoundsbtn with @_rafferty as he recorded his debut album with @lparleymusic . We captured the session on a mix of digital and Kodak Double X 16mm film, documenting Raffâs writing and recording process. Hereâs a few of my favourite frames from the scanned film.
I love the graininess, high contrast and general scuzz of this film stock.

Excited to announce that âAlbertâ will be starting its festival run with an official selection at the 10th annual New Renaissance Film Festival London next month!
We are delighted to be part of the festivalâs Close Up Programme in âBlock Iâ hosted at Close Up Cinema, Shoreditch.
Set on 17th-century Guernsey, âAlbertâ follows the tale of Sarre, a reclusive man in possession of a forbidden grimoire: âLe Petit Albertâ which appears to hold a strange power. When the islandâs righteous rector learns of Sarreâs discovery, he urges him to renounce the book and seek salvation, but can he?
