our gardens (10-18 of 36) 11”x14” custom photographic panels with affixed instant photographic prints Another install view @thecarnegie for the body isn’t a battery that discharges upon death curated by Midwest icon running all over the damn place @seanjpatrickcarney a moment of home, a home of a friend, a notation of difference on a walk, basking in the glory of our minuscule existences, a collaborative practice, a mark made, a signifier of cultural protection, everything and nothing in between.

🏵️ 🕯️ On view now: Jesse Ly in "The body isn’t a battery that discharges upon death." "Marigolds signify longevity and protection in China, the sun in Hindu traditions, and, in Mexico, cempasúchil carries a scent said to create a bridge between the living and the dead. Enlarged to fill windows in an earlier project, the image is cut down at the Carnegie into 36 tiles in handmade wooden frames, each overlaid with intimate snapshots from daily life. This reuse carries a Midwest economy, a kind of creative composting, and a Dayton specificity, where Ly has built a life and a home." – Sean J Patrick Carney, Curator Gallery Hours: Thu.–Sat., Noon – 5 PM. Exhibition Run: April 3 – August 8, 2026 📷: Jesse Ly

Hello hello hello, My name is Jesse Ly (@jessely ) and I will be taking over the #FilterPhoto feed today sharing some of the works that are a part of my exhibition “try, take time - take time, try.” Opening this Friday May 1st with a reception from 5-8PM, the show will be on view at #FilterSpace through June 13th. Today I will be sharing a glimpse of this body of work this exhibition revolves around and talk about it in relation to my larger practice as whole. try, take time - take time, try has been a body of work delving into the spectrum and intersections of care and labor. I have found myself over the past two years developing this work with a fixation on how these notations consecutively blend. What does it mean to show care and tenderness? What does it look like showing convictions and actions to preserve these? A call and response as well as affirmations and reminders. What does it mean to flow between these motives of trying and devoting time? The work above is titled “reach & harness,” a new piece debuting for this show – a piece I have been dreaming of and holding onto the idea for as this body of work has grown. While grounded in reality my practice still retains an affinity for what can feel like magic in the process. I am curious how an attention to the preternatural can be collective, analyzed, and harnessed in different capacities to hold space for ideals. #FilterPhotoTakeover

Opening on May 1st, try, take time – take time, try is a multidisciplinary project, spanning photographic, sculptural, and installation approaches, examining the intersection of care and labor. The work navigates the interplay between tenderness and firmness, exploring how these forces coexist in the process of change, and together create space for protection, affirmation, and possibility. 👀 Stay tuned for more sneak peeks of the work as the opening approaches!

Baumschutzkörbe: Support Systems (2026) Found bouquet, steel, resin, zip ties, inkjet print on cotton Collaborative work with Jesse Ly & Aubrey Theobald — Support System(s) is a collaborative project between Jesse Ly and Aubrey Theobald. Our collective work comes from a place of mutual support, capturing, embodying, and re-contextualizing objects that straddle systems of care and our intrapersonal relationships. Sculpture and captured moments are made through long journeys and mailed envelopes, often carried by our partners and loved ones. Contextualized by the directives of longing and togetherness in Touch, Spring, the Baumschutzkörbe unit became a symbol of support from a distance. Ubiquitous throughout Berlin, these municipal structures protect young trees lining the city., registering the tree, the space around it, and the ground beneath it as one. From afar, often adorned with leftover bike locks and fragments of ordinary life, they hold the vacant space around what they seek to protect as their own. Ly’s images were made apart from one another: from the last time we were together, and from walks taken months apart. Theobald’s infrastructural reinterpretation of a fractured, twisted Baumschutzkörbe is adorned with a bouquet of roses (zum Verschenken) from a significant day. This object solidifies the tension between attention and distance - each adornment sharpened, hardened, and rendered self-protective through fiberglass resin. — Images @chroma.studioberlin Exhibition @scopebln
