VX Life T is running low! Don’t 😴!
Story time • Back in 2007 I was offered a job at DC shoes as skate team assistant and Filmer. Upon being hired I was handed a Sony VX-1000, a fisheye, and some batteries, and was told I would be filming
@dannyway and
@colinmckay whenever they needed me. This became a daily thing as they both skated their private vert ramp in Vista often, giving me the opportunity to learn how to use the camera with some of the best in the game. DC was the beginning of what would ultimately become a family to me for the next 15 years, allowing me to travel the world and see it all through that camera.
In August of ‘22 I was offered a job at YT industries heading up marketing for NA. I took it without question as I was ready for some change. During that time I was asked to bring the VX vibe into a video we made to support Vans x YT collab and I began using the camera more and more after that for Hill awaits stuff. Everytime I pulled it out of the bag it reminded me of where I came from and where I am now. What started in a warehouse in vista ultimately led to filming and producing a number of skate videos DC released between 2007 and 2022 alongside
@chrisrayfilms and
@martinfobes , before moving over to YT to bring my skateboarding influence to a bike brand that was suited well for it.
Fast forward to today: I wanted to make a shirt that represented the significance of this camera and all of the experiences it has brought me, while also carrying the spirit of the brands I looked up to as a kid way before picking that camera up. Brands like Eightball, Droors, and Sophisto ran the streets in the early 90’s, sort of blurring the lines between urban graffiti and punk rock, and skateboarding was the cornerstone to all of that. I reached out to an old friend from High school,
@jesone who has always been a graffiti head, and asked him to whip something up for me. In under 24 hours this graphic was created, and the rest is history. 🖤📹
