Burnside 34 Years ! The DIY meteor landed 34 years ago creating a shockwave that has exponentially expanded across land and oceans around the world. The Burnside Project started as a small bank to wall, that seed grew and 5 or more seeds were planted the first 10 years of concrete DIY parks, some prevailed and some were lost. DIY Skateparks start as DIY spots, a ledge, bank to divider/wall, or as simple as a curb, if there is space additional elements are built & added then they can grow into a skatepark. There are thousands of diy spots & potentially 1000s of diy skateparks in existence. Currently Portland has 4 DIY skateparks & 20 plus diy spots, 4 additional PDX DIYs have existed in time over the past 15 years. Many locals were featured in the film and it is a positive about the DIY spirit and skateboarding community ! The Portland Steel Bridge ! Aerosol & airbrush 2026 Jaymeer at All City Bridges make diverse transit possible while connecting us & people together, allowing us to travel across challenging terrain quickly & safely! The Steel Bridge is recognized in Portland & around the world. Communities like All City do the same, they stand out while building bridges through difficult times creating connections that can last a lifetime. I am proud to have done many murals for @allcity.pdx in their adjoining school classrooms, youth group & meeting rooms. All City Church also works with non profits, neighborhood associations & have done outreach on their own helping others. I haven’t ever been to a church this unique where I see my extended skateboarding family which is amazing & solid like the Steel Bridge! The Steel Bridge is Known for its ability to raise the lower deck independently, it is one of the most multimodal in existence linking railroads, MAX light rail, vehicles, bicycles & pedestrians. It is the only double-deck bridge with independent lifts in the world and the second oldest vertical-lift bridge in North America. Technically it is a through-truss, double-deck vertical-lift bridge & the largest telescoping bridge in the world upon completion. Some places Art runs for years, Burnside has had a record of refreshing Art almost every year , it is tough and can be painful to see things go or change, especially when you appreciate it or put in work to paint it (memorials for friends that much more so). The park got a reset for 35 & in mid October, it was time, I miss this art, at the same time it’s good to start fresh, as Allways it’s about skateboarding culture, our amazing resilience & diversity & the message of positivity with the DIY ethos ➡️ community… volunteering, donating, & helping others with the goal to build a better place for us all. A skateboarding portal / vortex to gather, visit and skateboard. An amazing thing that the yearly artwork has helped document the year circa in skate photos & video over the last 3 plus decades at the 1st DIY flagship. I’ll fly a starship across the universe divide until I reach Burnside, I’ll find a place to rest with the Diy spirit if I can. Perhaps I may become a builder or skateboarder again, hey man I already am. Or I may simply be a drop of Paint Concrete or Rain, but I will remain & I’ll be back again and again and again and again and again. Stay on board with a trowel handy.
