Dear Friends and Colleagues,
During the current 25/26 season - marking the JQ’s 30th anniversary, and following Ori Kam’s departure last year - we have had the privilege of performing with two outstanding violists, Mathis Rochat and Alexander Gordon.
It has been a truly special year - filled with journeys across the world and a rich, wide-ranging repertoire. Among the highlights were the Shostakovich cycle, milestone works of the quartet literature such as Haydn’s “Sunrise,” Mozart’s “Dissonance,” Beethoven’s Op. 130 with the Grosse Fuge, as well as quartets of Ravel and Janáček. We also had the honor of presenting the premiere of Shulamit Ran’s “Betwixt and Between” Quartet no.4, and of sharing a number of unforgettable concerts with the remarkable Elisabeth Leonskaja and Gary Hoffman.
As this memorable season draws to a close, we feel it is the right moment to share an important step forward. We are delighted to welcome Alexander Gordon Zemtsov into our quartet family, and look forward to embarking together on our fourth decade of music-making.
Alexander Gordon, currently Professor of Viola in Cologne and Lausanne, is among the most respected and influential musicians of our generation. From the very first rehearsals with him, there was a clear sense of personal and artistic chemistry, as well as a shared commitment to the values that guide us in our demanding profession.

Janáčkův Smyčcový kvartet č. 1, inspirovaný Tolstého Kreutzerovou sonátou, patří k nejdramatičtějším dílům komorní hudby. Od své premiéry v roce 1924 si vydobyl pevné místo mezi vrcholnými skladbami kvartetního repertoáru.

On a journey of growth and maturation since 1996. 🌿
The @jerusalemquartet met in Israel while studying at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Of the four members, three migrated from the former Soviet Union, while the quartet's leader, Alexander Pavlovsky, immigrated with his family to Israel from Kiev, Ukraine, in 1991. 🎻
They settled on "Jerusalem" as the name of their quartet. Since then, the group has received international acclaim and numerous awards, including the Diapason d’Or and the #BBCMusicMagazine Award for chamber music. 🏆
In addition to recording works by Ravel, Debussy, Haydn, and more, the Quartet released a unique album in 2019 which explores Jewish music in Central Europe between the wars and its far-reaching influence. 🎵
