Scenes from PLAYA on Summer Lake, Oregon - the dust storms have been dramatic, as have the sunrises. And the ever present, invasive tumbleweed that tumbled onto my deck. I’ve been here for a week preparing for my workshop Taking a Closer Look, in May, which will be 10% off if you register before April - use code SPRING10 at checkout.

I’m at PLAYA for two weeks, testing some cyanotype printing methods for my workshop here in May. It’s been such a contrast to see Summer Lake full, but there are still dramatic dust storms across the dry lake bed to the east. There are a few spots left in my workshop “Taking a Closer Look” - we will be spending time touring and talking about the habitats around Summer Lake and Lake Abert, as well as spending time in the studio making prints. Hopefully a combination of creative, educational and fun.

Finished these pieces, PLAYA I and II, this weekend. They will go to a show in May at Punch Gallery, Thorp, WA for Friends of PLAYA, and serve as inspiration for my next trip to spend time at Summer Lake next week.
Art of Ecology opens this weekend at the Reser Performing Arts Center in Beaverton. The seven artists showing all work at the dynamic intersection of art and science.
I’ll be teaching this workshop again as a benefit for PLAYA, an art-science residency program in the Oregon Outback. But also check out the other opportunities offered at PLAYA - it’s a wonderful place to explore and get creative.
This gorgeous piece. The mix of media, the balance of hard and soft, the glow and growl of it.
Our artists are amazing. Creating such unique and intriguing works all in 6 days.
This one by @jerribartholomew and @schimelfining.sculptures was a fan favorite.

We love the mix of materials on this piece! The opacity of the glass mixed with the density of the metal. Beautiful combinations of artists, processes and materials.
