The Vienna-based musician draws on both acoustic recordings and digital instruments, crafting a visceral sound design with a backdrop of subtle gestures, phantasmic textures, and warped rhythmical experiments. Unexpectedly, the voice, though often highly synthesized and unrecognizable, becomes a core element throughout certain tracks on the album. It’s a voice searching for its footing in volatile soundscapes, merging with jagged melodic motifs and askew beat structures. Viennese label Jeopardize is a low-key umbrella for a wide variety of styles and low-threshold approaches. Its second instalment “VARIOUS ARTISTS 2” gathers takes on ambient, noise and drone music. Bogland’s “Exploration of four strings” and emme’s “lucidity” further set the tone for VA2 as a split-premiere on Tender Matter. Both of the introspective pieces present their own venturous spacings and soundscapes.
