Feeling inspired and grateful for an incredible time with the @nextcityorg Vanguard community in Philadelphia last week. We met thoughtful community leaders and orgs working to make the city better WITH their communities, in all corners of the city, and building community with 48 new Vanguards who I look forward staying connected to and learning from. My brain and heart is full. Thank you @nextcityorg team! ❤️
“We are here today because of the love that came before us.” My uncle and aunt Chee Sing and Moi Chong on their wedding day in 1956. Congratulations to their granddaughter and my cousin, @ambermaarie and Nick! #amberandnicktietheknot #familywedding
In Mexico City we met friends of friends who gave us a tour of @huertoromaverde , a laboratory of bio-social resilience that was established on a site of abandoned ruins as a result of Mexico City’s 1985 earthquake. From circular economies, to sustainable urban agriculture, to ceramics, to mind and body wellness, and indigenous cuisine, it’s a space that’s been built and continues to evolve as a result of its community.
Thank you to @marielayalap and Martian for hosting us. It was very special and we felt very inspired by each of you, Mariela’s father, and your entire community’s work in creating such a beautiful and important place in the city.
Midway through one week in Mexico City: Ben and I after a few swigs of pulque, a stop at the baby jesus repair shop (just in time for the holidays), and before getting onboard our trajinera to explore some of the last remaining canals and floating gardens in CDMX.
Thank you to these awesome people for coming over to DC to let me show off their incredible work as Asian American designers, creatives, and community leaders. Yin, Cheryl, and Ernie, you are rad, and I’m lucky to know and learn from each of you.
And thank you @nationalasla for letting us take over your HQ for the night :)
