A YEAR LATER…
This was my first art show I curated following the year I came back to Oxnard, feeling lost and unsure about what I wanted to do in life. This art show was literally paying tribute to my roots and the roots of my fellow artists.
It was amazing working on set with Abby and Dalton, they were hardworking and imaginative, we made over 600 paper flowers, all created by 13 different people from the community.
Organized it with DOIA, Abel and Sarah were so patient.
Had the talents of Gabriel Islas, Guadalupe Vasquez, Roxanne Trujillo, Juana Martinez, and while she may not be local I included my friend Tiana Rodriguez as she came to the US in her teenage years in pursuit of higher learning and art and is embodiment of the American Dream.
“Growing Up Hispanic” will always hold a special place in my heart. The significance of its theme to even the date of the show. I love you, you are the birth of an ego. And with that I introduce my next art show, a death inspired show to represent the death of an ego including over 15 different artists. More info to be posted later next week.
