the other night i was honored at the @NEDA gala. i first learned about the National Eating Disorders Association around 15 years ago when i visited the website to check the symptoms of an eating disorder to see if i qualified. i did, by about 10 times. not to brag but i was *very good* at eating disorders.
anyway, to now be honored by the organization that has helped so many (including myself) is deeply meaningful.
i have been recovered - PAST TENSE - for over seven years. i don’t white-knuckle my way through meals. i don’t have a list of safe foods. i haven’t binged, purged, weighed myself, or counted a calorie in over seven years. the eating disorder is gone. it left. and the place it used to take up is now full of other things. much better things. i’ve written Half His Age and igmmd - two books i’m beyond proud of, i have beautiful relationships, am in peaceful environments, and live a healthy life. none of which would have been possible with eating disorders still ruling me.
i hope this is what someone out there needs to hear. life gets a thousand times better once you get over the ED.

disney adult that i am, i’m in the middle of the international tour for my novel HALF HIS AGE and simply *had* to stop for a @disneylandparis day (okay, it was 3…). some key takeaways for my other disney adults out there:
- walt’s chili was the best thing i ate on property.
- the mickey’s pizza absolutely tastes like frozen pizza and is absolutely perfect
- the room service at the Disneyland hotel was maybe the worst room service I’ve ever had in my life.
- favorite ride: crush’s coaster
- merch was generally underwhelming.
- soundtrack at walt disney studios is spot on
PS my novel #HALFHISAGE is coming to france 2027. 🇫🇷
