“Before working with Jen, I felt incapable of achieving my goals. I’d start for a month, then slide right back. I would adjust my goals before I’d adjust my lifestyle, and I had zero awareness of that fact. I was numbing myself with alcohol and cannabis to ignore the gap between the man I was and the man I wanted to be. I had lost self-confidence and in many ways, self-respect... If I didn’t respect myself enough to honor my word, why would anyone else? As a 42-year-old business owner with three boys under six, I was perpetually tired, my sleep was a disaster, and I felt like a passenger in my own life.
The breaking point? My wife offered my five-year-old a cookie, and he said, “No, I don’t want to be fat like Dad.” My world crumbled. I realized I couldn’t teach my sons to be men of accountability if I didn’t have any myself. Something needed to change...
It wasn’t easy. For the first five months, I clung to my old ways. The real change only happened when I finally “emptied my cup” and let go of my ego. I realized that wanting something and doing what is necessary to get it are two different worlds. I went from cutting corners and skipping sets to pushing my limits.
Today, I’m ~40 pounds lighter (220 to 178) and a whole heck of a lot stronger! But the physical part is just the tip of the iceberg. I’m a better husband, a better father, and a better businessman. I have self-respect. I take ownership. Most importantly, my boys now join me in the gym because they want to “work out like Dad.”
Before Jen, my shoulders were so screwed up I couldn’t lift 10 lbs over my head. Now? I’m pressing 185.
If you’re wondering whether you are worth the investment and if you can actually achieve your goals, know that you are and you can. Jen doesn’t just train a body; she understands the whole person. Just do it.”

I was born in a small town… Raised in the same small town… Went to college in a small town… And still live in the country.
I’ve been so lucky to travel the world… including spending time in some of the world‘s largest cities… I always feel slightly anxious/scared in traffic, sky scrapers and in big crowds.
But get me on a mountain trail… Driving to tractor… Planting a garden… Building fence… Throwing a line in… Tracking big game… Skinny dipping in a mountain stream… I’ll never be more comfortable/happy.

Flexibility and mobility are not the same thing.
Flexibility is the passive ability of a muscle to stretch… Mobility is the active ability to move a joint through its full range of motion with strength and stability.

Stop listening to all the noise and keep it simple.
Fitness has been over-complicated when 99% of us just need to do the following to reach our goals.
- STRENGTH TRAIN (lift heavy shit): 2 days for each muscle group will get your results. Use a type of progressive overload with the SAME exercises instead of bouncing around.
2. SPRINT: this might be running, but it also could be rowing, biking, jump rope, burpees, high knees, sled pushes… just push really hard for a short amount of time (10-30sec and rest 30-90sec) a couple of times per week.
3. WALK: Every day! This may be the most underrated form of exercise that most people are missing. Shoot for 7-10k steps per day. Maybe you want to make this a slow jog or hike based on your fitness level. Adjust to bike or swim if unable (or don’t want) to run.
4. DO MOBILITY: this can be any combo of stretching, myo-fascial release, controlled joint articulations, yoga, massage, scraping, voodoo flossing. Do something daily to care for the joints and muscles you want to perform.

It’s not a special anniversary or a birthday or anything… it’s just a random Wednesday that we chose to take an hour to go for a bike ride date together.
I’m confident that through all the ups and downs in the last almost 19 years together… making most of our “dates” about being active and adventuring (no matter how big or small) has made it work. It’s rare we don’t get out on a trail or mountain or ski ride or workout at least 3-4 times a week together. It is our therapy.

Yes… a caloric deficit is needed to lose weight.
No… it’s not the whole story.
We cannot be chronically underfed and expect our bodies to change.
A chronic caloric deficit slows metabolism (less muscle, less energy, energy conservation, etc). A slower metabolism makes it harder to lose weight.

The best program is only as good as the person who will do it.
