A favorite from my current show @thepitla . This piece is about the onset & rebirth of Spring. I’ve titled my show Persistence of Vision - a tribute to myself and all artists 😊 and its reference to “the optical phenomenon where the retina retains an image after the light source ends”. The show is on view at The Pit through April 30th. 🌺 four seasons of metaphysical love glazed stoneware and wire 18x18x12in 📸 @false_artifacts

This piece is included in my current solo show @thepitla through April 30. Please stop in! …… they called it a super bloom stoneware, glaze and wire 20x20x15in 📸 @false_artifacts …… The exhibition features twelve new ceramic works that continue King’s practice of experimentation with non-traditional glazing, painting, and high-fire techniques. Drawing from the subconscious, collapsing time and experiences onto the surface, King explores the vase as a historically significant object, relating to storytelling, while reflecting ideas around memory and nostalgia. King views the vase as an object of adornment, which is emphasized by the use of dangling ceramic flowers and organic forms. These embellishments convey a sense of opulence and vitality, connecting the object to the natural world and imbuing it with a feeling of latent motion.

The Pit is pleased to present "Persistence of Vision," the gallery’s second solo exhibition by LA-based artist Jennifer King, on view from March 21 through April 30, with a public reception from 3-5pm on Sunday March 22nd. For more information email us at [email protected] --------- Press release excerpt: The central piece of the exhibition, which became the title of the show, “Persistence of Vision,” refers to an optical illusion, in which an image lingers after the stimulus disappears - akin to a fiery trail of a glowing coal or burning stick while it’s whirled around in motion in the dark. King uses this term loosely as a metaphor - the gaps our mind fills in for us, how we interpret our own version of events, thus creating a narrative construction. Conflict is embedded in the relationship between depicted figures, evoking unease and imbalance of power, countered by romance, while simultaneously conveying humor and improbability of the image. This tension is heightened by the inverted composition, which destabilizes the scene. #JenniferKing persistence of vision, 2026 Stoneware, glaze and wire 19 x 18 x 13.5 in 📸: Photography by Chris Hanke @false_artifacts

This piece is included in Lefebvre et Fils 10-year Anniversary group show opening tomorrow, Mar 6 in Paris. ♥️ Thank you @lefebvreetfils for having me at your residency and including me! 🇫🇷 ……… Je voudrais te peindre au naturel 2024 25 x 12.5 x 20.5 in ………. about this piece: In the early 70s, while living at the St Regis Hotel in New York, Salvador Dali had lunch with my mother, a classical pianist. They spoke in French and he asked whether she would allow him to paint her at the piano: “Je voudrais te peindre au naturel” (I would like to paint you in the nude). Too demure to unclothe for him, she turned him down. This piece depicts my own representation of that proposition at the St Regis, as he examined her through the crystal prism held up to his eye.
