Nothing gives me more joy than to see the songs of the wonderful artists that I work with being released into the world. @mermaidjac came to me with this fantastic “fuck you” song and we started casting about for a sonic world to present it in. When I stumbled on some totally 80s Linn Drum samples, Jackie’s ears perked up and we knew we had a direction. The rest fell into place pretty quickly from that. Beyond thrilled for my friend @joanieleeds and her 2026 Grammy nomination in the Best Children’s Music Album category for her album Ageless: 100 Years Young! I was fortunate to be a part of this one from the beginning–tracking the guitars at my studio in Brooklyn, adding some mandolin and uke, and engineering vocals for Joanie’s daughter, Joya (with a cameo by our talented in-house vocalist @msandirae and an assist from studio dog/intern/gang vocalist @specialagentdalecooperthepup ).
Building these guitar arrangements upon which the rest of the album was made (based on demos for some excellent hot-off-the-presses Joanie songs) was a super fun challenge and it was an honor to be a part of it. I’m so happy with how the rest of the process played out and for the success the album is receiving out in the world. Major congratulations to Joanie, Joya, @mts_music and all the nominees…I’m so excited to see what happens in February!
