A blast at my first National Entertainment & Arts Journalism Awards and didn't leave empty handed! I wasn't 1st Place but for some reason I'm so happy and proud of this! Maybe it's being seen alongside the 2025's Print Journalist of the Year
@willman.chris and another #NAEJ winner for the night
@hollygleason615 โ both who I read and look up to. Maybe it's knowing the stress these stories caused me, but were ultimately recognized by my actual peers. Maybe it was wearing my PaPa's vintage tie that I found in his closet on Thanksgiving. Whatever it was, this little plaque meant a lot to me during a difficult year and acted as a reminder that truth, analysis, commentary, communication and arts journalism matter. So thank you,
@lapressclub and congratulations on a wonderful event. Thank you Paul Anka for being amazing. And thank you
@chase.press.kr for being the best hypewoman, dinner buddy and photographer ๐
In my work, I never set out to provoke anyone. I remember a dinner with my cousin in an LA Mexican restaurant around 2017 when she told me I'm an artist, which I never considered you could be when you're a journalist. But that conversation never left me (even if she's blocked me on Instagram). Neither did this
@xtina quote from 2010: "I think what an artist does isn't try to provoke, they just do. I think artists tend to want to explore their own personal boundaries โ and for a lot of people it's too much sometimes. But I can't think about that. It's not really on my agenda to really worry about 'What are people going to think of it?' and 'Is it too much for them?' Because then I would be living by their standards and rules; how they would live their life and not mine"
I'm sorry if my writing ever made your job more difficult. It's not personal. I've always set out to tell my truth about music and the world in writing, and I'm so blessed to have opportunities to do so. Let's continue the conversations and connections so we can all keep growing as artistically as we can. All it takes is communication and I'm always here to have an honest conversation
