WORKING TITLE PHOTO BOOK - 12”X12” - VO. 1 12 x 12 Professional Line XT, Spreads: Silk photo paper: 14 pages FUJIFILM Crystal Archive HD Album silk surface Cover: acrylic + leatherette, Cover surface: leatherette black. For inquiries please email: [email protected] —————————————————————————————————— “This body of work gathers fragments of recent memories; places passed through, moments observed, and atmospheres felt rather than fully understood. Moving between night and daylight, interior and landscape, the photographs follow light as a connective thread: neon windows, saturated sunsets, artificial glow, and filtered sun through trees. These images are less about documenting specific locations than about the emotional residue they leave behind. Through color, darkness, and abstraction, ordinary scenes become suspended in a state between familiarity and dream. The sequence reflects how memory itself functions; fragmented, nonlinear, and shaped by sensation. Objects, architecture, plants, and figures appear briefly before dissolving into light or shadow. By bringing these images together, the work attempts to construct a visual rhythm that mirrors the experience of recollection: quiet, atmospheric, and slightly surreal. The photobook becomes a space where disparate moments gather and form a continuous emotional landscape.” -JS *link in bio*

VAST EMPTY SPACE - Photo Essay Publication by @ephemere.tokyo featured in the Ephemere Photo Journal Volume I, 2025 “The Duality of Ephemerality and Permanence” Thank you so much @ephemere.tokyo for featuring my work! And of course none of this would have been possible without the help of @nikkidreaming 💙 “This project explores the fragile and impermanent nature of perception, capturing fleeting moments that often dissolve before they can fully be held. Through the lens, I examine the ways light moves through space, always transforming, always finding new paths to appear. Light becomes a symbol of presence and transition; something that is constantly shapeshifting. The work also reflects on memory and its unstable, imperfect qualities. Just as the lens does not always render a fixed image, memory is rarely exact. It blurs, distorts, and reshapes itself, revealing not only what was once seen, but also how it continues to be carried in consciousness. In this astigmatic space, there is a hypnotic beauty in imperfections. Some of the photographs in this project emerge from spaces that exist in my dreams, and as I remember them, I encounter them in my waking reality. They are not tied to a particular location but rather space that is rough, shifting impressions, familiar yet undefined. These images function as liminal spaces, holding a resonance that may feel recognizable not only to me but to others. In this in-between terrain, the work seeks to evoke shared memory and imagination, inviting recognition in what feels both strange and intimately known.” -Justin Schug

Only 9 days left to submit to Open Call #8: Ephemerality! Today, we're featuring a project from @jcsdop . ____________________________ Justin Schug (USA) presents "Vast Empty Space," a photo essay that captures fleeting moments and the transient nature of light. His work explores the relationship with nature and fragility, often through a lens that mirrors memory's astigmatic quality rather than sharpness. The project delves into how light constantly peaks through and transitions, reflecting on the impermanence inherent in every passing moment. ____________________________ Open Call #8: Ephemerality — Explore impermanence through photo essays. Submit your work until July 31st—free and paid options are available! All entries will be reviewed by Ephemere’s curator-publisher Anne Murayama @anne.m_______ and selected work will be featured in our first-ever printed Journal and/or a group exhibition at the 𝑬𝒑𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐 𝑭𝒆𝒔𝒕Fest in Tokyo during our special event from October 1–12.
