Perfect weekend in Montagu with good friends 🫶.
Love road tripping that side, the gravel is probably the best in the country (especially this Gravel and Grit route we had this weekend, best route I’ve ever raced on) and this place is something else for everything before and after the racing : chilling on the deck, braaing, swimming… can’t wait to go back already!

We’re proud to officially announce the riders representing ASAP Cycling Team at the 2026 Tour de Maurice from 2–5 June 🌴
Representing the team, we have:

Ronde van Bain’s with a full squad this weekend, 5 of us in the top 9 (including 🥈& 🥉). We wanted a break with at least two of us there which we got with @hofmeyrwynand and @cobus.marais in a move with @danloubser . Once this was gone we quickly ended up with a reduced chase group in which we rolled through without chasing too actively, thinking if the gap stays what it is, @willem_visagie2005 can bridge accross to the break and win it. It almost exactly happened as planned except the descent of Bain’s still requires a lot of pedalling and Willem on his brand new bike didn’t have a big enough chainring to keep up with Dan in the final ramp to the line.
Super proud of the team’s showing this weekend you guys are always mad strong, well done @danloubser on another great race and finally a good decisive decent 😬😬.
On a personal note expected but still disappointing lack of endurance at that intensity with cramps about 2 hours in, I can think of a dozen excuses for that, but still glad I could be there in that chase group to contribute with what I could (and thanks again Willem for looking after me in the crosswinds 🩵)

Cycle Tour 26 : we took a couple of pulls with my partner in crime @wilcostr , it’s safer in the front than in the bunch apparently 😬.
Then after 1h48 at 318w normalised my power meter decided to die, so I figured I might as well cruise over chappies and to the finish because it doesn’t count anymore 🤓.
2h43, almost my slowest tour of the 5 I did, but my first one was the wet one and was therefore a couple mins slower !
Seems going over chappies in the front group will never happen as I’m definitely too old for this 😅

CTCT is one of the hardest races to control and get right because it’s so fast and it’s such a big group, you have to always have someone in the front to know what’s going on, and then be able to communicate to try and make the right decisions. You also need to position right and avoid crashes, which there was a lot yesterday, and despite spending most of the first hour and a half in the front, I had to come to a stop twice to go around poor guys on the floor. The crash before chappies definitely didn’t help us execute our plan but that’s racing. Well done to my teammates yesterday for a strong ride, absolute privilege to be able to ride alongside you all 🩵
