Vanishing Seattle is excited to present the online premiere of “Vanishing Seattle: The Beacon.” 🎞️ After screening at Scomodo in Rome, Italy (2026), Seattle Asian American Film Festival’s C-ID Summer Series (2025), Massive Monkees Day 25th Anniversary (2024), and as an Official Selection at the Hip Hop Cine Fest in Italy (2025), Seattle Hip Hop Film Festival (2024), Local Sightings Film Festival (2024), Fuselage Dance Film Festival (2024), Scope Screenings (2024), and Lights Dance Festival (2024), we are proud to share our short film about The Beacon Studio – part of the second Vanishing Seattle documentary series. 🎥 In 2013, members of the Massive Monkees, Seattle’s acclaimed breaking crew, opened The Beacon Studio in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. After many successful years of growth and development in the dance community, the studio closed in 2020 with uncertainty of whether it would ever reopen. “La La La” #beatsbyjazrupt REMIX | @naughtyboymusic feat. @samsmith ⚡️🙉⚡️ I’ve had the idea to remix “La La La” by Naughty Boy & Sam Smith for a while…it came on during my drives to pick up my son from preschool a few times, and I wondered if I could flip it to use Lauryn Hill’s vocals from “Fu-Gee-La.” 🎶 A couple weeks ago I decided to give it a go, and after isolating the vocals I began playing out some chord progressions, chopped up Lauryn’s vocal sample, and then programmed some chonky drums before wonking things up a bit to taste. 🎞️ After that I cut a visual with stock footage I plundered from @pexels using the prompt, “Cover Ears” ✨ And there ya have it! Whatcha think?! You fuck with this? I produce a lot of beats but not a lot of remixes…should I make some more? Tag @samsmith & @naughtyboy in the comments if you think they should hear the remix. That time I animated 10-15k hexnuts for a job with @goblin_and_sons_confectionery - we used @dragonframe.software and animated for two weeks straight 12hrs a day! Besides a few second intro it was one contiguous shot, and 100% in camera #stopmotion. Nothing computer generated in the edit. It was a beast to create but stands as one of my proudest achievements! . Anyone remember the time in 1992 when Coe Elementary (along with plenty more Seattle locations) was featured in the made for TV movie, “With A Vengeance”? 🍿🏫 - That’s ten year old me in the background throwing and catching a baseball! (3-4 seconds in) Coe students participated in the filming and were paid handsomely in cheeseburgers. 🎬 On Coe Cougars! —— Starring Melissa Gilbert and Michael Gross (who you might know as the dad from Family Ties) this television thriller follows an amnesiac nanny uncovering her gruesome past. 🔪 🩸 I’ve found the film in its entirety on YouTube - for classic Seattle imagery & thrilling 90’s dramatic vibes, grab some popcorn and check it out!
