Triangle House was inspired by a roofline I saw years back on a building in Australia. A lot of my projects start this way, by seeing a shape that I like and then seeing where it goes. I designed this home in 2023 for @uluwatusurfvillas . Built by @uluwatubuildingco . You may notice that the windows get smaller as you move toward the back of the house. I wanted the house too recede into the hillside and feel less assuming from the back view, which is how you approach the house. The result being a gradual angle of the windows from front to back that match the earth.
This project began with acquiring a 14' diameter by 18' tall salvaged redwood water tank made from old growth redwood from @pacificreclaimed . Many of my projects start with purchasing a mass of recycled materials, and letting it guide the build. Months were spent resawing, milling and stockpiling, before the onsite construction could begin. @clifford.nies managed the build and on-site daily operations while I worked on the windows and doors in my woodshop. Thank you Cliff! The structures steel base was built by collaborator @llabianca , incorporating @nelsontreehouse hardware. Special thanks to @carr.artt@claire_leffler , @elevatedspaces@tristonwu , @zac.mosher , @tdrwoodwork@byronconndesign and @faithdesignstudio for their contributions. Photos by @clifford.nies .
