Was reminded today by @theabnerpedro , as we walked into @paramountdenver , about ghost lights—and it took me back to the pandemic era. Back then, we didn’t have answers. Emotions, fears, and speculations were everywhere. No one had peace to offer, and chaos was all around.
And here we are now, still carrying some of those same feelings. I often ask myself: Where are the joy-filled peacemakers? Am I one—or not?
In this current season of life, many of those emotions still resonate with me, but I’ve never been happier. I’ve also been reminded of the joy of music and the camaraderie that comes with touring—these people with me, people reaching out as we pass familiar venues or cities, crossing paths on the road, supporting one another near and far. Checking in feels like the task more than the shows.
This JOHNNYSWIM tour brings life, simply by the tone set offstage. What a gift it is to be surrounded by joyful people.
Plus, I’m about to embark on a mind-blowing season with @melodiedanae as we tie the knot and create a world of our own. 🤯 never felt this way is such a wild thing to say at 43. Watching our friends and families surround us is special right now.
We’ve chosen joy for this tour—whether we all realized it or not. We’re pushing to upgrade whatever scenario we find ourselves in. The shows have brought so much joy, and the crowds are locked in. Yesterday a man who had lost his wife and child spoke freely of his connection to the music before the show. During the song we all cried and he sang his heart out. He had deep sorry and radiant joy! The crossroads we all find ourselves in often but this man was upright with people around him. He chose joy!
I feel gratitude deep in my bones—surrounded by constantly shifting emotions of all varieties.
In the great words of my friend: “Ain’t it good to be working?” IT IS!
I want joy for us all, in the deepest way. A world that smiles no matter what. Not hokey stuff—just real joy. Grab it and hold it tight. It’s probably in the people you do life with… or it’s in you, waiting to be shared with them.

We are about to head into a season, where it feels like we have the least control of the year. Where it feels as if the demands only get higher and the time only gets shorter. Hope everyone has had a good few days of rest and got to see some people that you love. I’m gonna step away from socials for a sec so I can end the year and start 2022 with some internal clarity.
