This Friday we have the electrifying
@jayberdd kicking off the evening ⚡️
With a record bag that spans across techno, electro, trance, house, breaks, and everything in between, Jay Berd’s style is tough to pin down into any singular genre. Always reading the crowd, Jay is an expert selector who enjoys bringing the dance floor through an emotional journey during extended sets.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Jay Berd grew up around music since infancy. Early exposure to The Grateful Dead and Jimi Hendrix came from car rides with his father, and his music taste grew to encompass punk, rock, ska, bluegrass, jazz, electronica, glitch hop, and dubstep. Being too young for the club, Jay used to sneak into venues in Dallas to catch his favorite acts when they came to town.
Moving to Colorado for school, Jay had his first taste of underground house and techno music and took up DJing and producing in his spare time. His DJ career steadily grew, playing at venues like Red Rocks, Bar Standard, Summit Music Hall, and Cervantes. Having a natural knack for music, Jay decided to take a leap and pursue music full time by moving to New York.
Once in New York, he immediately began classes at Dubspot to hone his production skills. Under the guidance of teachers Abe Duque and Vasco Ispirian, Jay grew an affinity for hardware and rapidly began collecting drum machines and modular synths. During this time, he started working production with Brooklyn party staples Resolute, Bushwhick AV, De La Funk, and Sum Label.
Attracted by the warm weather, Jay moved to LA where he continued working production and DJing with the likes of Rhythm Rapport, Dialogue, Midnight Lovers, and Cyclone parties. Continuing to work on his production, he’s begun to meld his love for jam bands, rock, techno, and electro into a style of his own.
Having helped with the production of Black/Tuesday Records, Sports Records, and Parang Recordings, Jay started Lemak Records in 2018. Looking to expose underrepresented artists, Lemak Records will be a limited series releasing vinyl of friends and artists Jay admires.
Jay’s sets are not to be missed, come start the night with some proper tunes 🔋
