It can be hard for me to connect. My music is the way I can break through those barriers and transcend; to touch the hearts of others and help them heal through the Art of Sound. May house music always remain a safe haven for the misfit; for the downtrodden; for anyone who desires to feel free.
This is a more serious post than most of what I share on here but I felt like it was necessary to do so, due to world events in recent months. This world is a heavy place, something I'm always aware of but sometimes it just becomes much more apparent than others. Now is one of those times. This is my argument for why it's so important to follow your passion and live your truth. I hope if anything, this helps motivate you to continue pursuing your dreams, especially if you happen to be feeling down or discouraged right now. Love you friends, and I'm so grateful for you all. Your genuine and continuing support of my passion and artistic journey seriously gives me meaning and purpose in life. 🙏 Thank you.
At this particular point in my artistic journey I consider myself more of a producer than a DJ ~ as in the inspiration for me to produce comes almost daily, however the inspiration to mix not as often. It’s been very important for me to not force or rush this process - but to let my journey of building my skillsets and artistic vision unfold naturally and authentically on its own timeline. Maintaining the integrity of my own timeline has been difficult at times in the midst of the false urgency culture of the nightlife industry. When the inspiration does come to mix, it’s very exciting and feels very sacred. Since I don’t get to choose when the inspiration comes and goes, when it does come I like to take full advantage and mix in a Ceremonial fashion.
Step One: Cacao + Micro (Open the heart and prepare mindset with Medicine)
Step Two: Movement and Flow warm-up with stretching to get my physical body attuned to sonic vibration.
Step Three (Gratitude): Pray and give thanks to all the Producers who created these incredible tracks that inspire and move me so deeply, oftentimes to tears. Give special thanks to the founders of our genre who are no longer with us (RIP Frankie Knuckles, Nathan Coles, Paul Johnson, Aaron Carl, and many more). My collection is an extension of myself. When I feel deeply moved by the work of an artist, I take time to research them to know more about them and their life: I want to enhance my personal connection with their essence and energy, and bond with them as a human being, not just with their work.
Step 4 (Set Intention): House music carries an inherently healing vibration. Sound has the profound ability to heal; massaging our internal organs and meridian chakra points to induce emotional releases of energetic blockages from past trauma in the parasympathetic nervous system. Since day one house music has been a safe haven for the queer community and people of color to escape the tyrannical systemic oppression they endure in the default world on a daily basis. I set an intention for the sound waves of this mix session to emanate outward and have a ripple effect to make waves for collective liberation (continued in comments):
