Original post from 2 years ago: As many of you know, I still and will always love hand painted tattoo flash. It was common back in the day to see a set that said “Designs by……” and then “Color by…….” During my formative years in the mid 90’s, flash is how I got my start. Thanks to
@dennisdwyertattoo and Precision Tattoo Supply, they sold my flash in their catalogs, which paid for much of my tattoo supplies. The first major tattoo convention I attended was in 1998 at the Miami Tattoo Tour. Damn was that a great convention. It was a who’s who of Legends all under one roof. I was buying as much flash as I could afford and soaking in the knowledge. This was when I first met
@j_rudy_gtc . I picked up a set he did from that year and I think that’s also when I got a set from 1994. Here I am years later, still painting flash, but now honoring Jack for the
@tattoo_heritage_project art show at
@2ndfloorgallery coming up December 16th. I’ll be there to see tons of amazing pieces and so should you. This is my contribution as a tribute to the Legend himself, Jack Rudy. Taken from his designs that helped to kickstart my career. Thank you Sir for all the inspiration!!! -Jay

Damn…… this was only two years ago and in that short time, we’ve lost Legends Jack Rudy and Dennis Dwyer amongst too many others. Men that helped shape me as a person and my career. I owe them both a huge debt of gratitude amongst many others that still make me strive to continue being a true tattoo artist, as opposed to just a tattooer.
Yesterday I spent the first part of my day with three other tattoo artists, all of us from different shops, all of us pushing each other to constantly strive to get better.
@haagtattoos ,
@easy_mike_tattoos ,
@marektattoos , and
@jayalanger ,myself, painting and creating new flash sheets. So thank you to Legends we’ve lost, and to the Legends of the future. #alwayscreating #handpainted #tattooflash #wisconsintattooartist #minnesotatattooartist
