Over the last 8 months Jason and I have been spending weekends building this kiln out of other’s garbage. All the bricks were from old kilns, either abandoned on the CCA Oakland campus or from kilns that were being torn down around the bay. Last weekend we fired for the first time and it worked. For the clay nerds out there, we achieved cone 12+ in 10 hours.

Sneak peek at a resist demo in @jason_pottery ’s Tuesday night class. Jason was demonstrating how potters can use simple materials, like rubber bands or skinny tape, to stop glaze from being absorbed… and then take advantage of a glaze like #Temoku which will give a different effect on a thin place than a thick one.

There is magic in doing hard things next to other people doing hard things. I was an anxious wreck throughout grad school, but I was also so happy because these people made it joyful too.
Something, something, it's about the friends you made along the way. I'll be forever grateful. 💖
Also forever mad at the way things have ended up for the people who worked so hard for us. Art schools are broken, but the people are not.
