Over the last 8 months Jason and I have been spending weekends building this kiln out of other’s garbage. All the bricks were from old kilns, either abandoned on the CCA Oakland campus or from kilns that were being torn down around the bay. Last weekend we fired for the first time and it worked. For the clay nerds out there, we achieved cone 12+ in 10 hours.
A big thank you to Eric for letting us build this and for everyone who helped along the way.
Registration for our April courses are now open! We also have firing services and clay for purchase if you’d like to take your hand building skills home and fire at our studio!
Meet @jason_pottery ! Our new throwing instructor! We’ve added 5 more spots for this month starting on Thursday March 5th!

Self portrait with circus jar. I’m hard at work wrapping my head around what I can do with Cone 10 reduction. As usual, I brainstormed with Sensei @jason_pottery and he suggested using terra sig to even out the surfaces. I’ve also decided to lean into the 1970’s vibe, so this piece is getting a vintage clown decal.
