narratiiiv, chapter ii: we made this one for our moms. back in december when we were trying to figure out the next story we wanted to tell, we all told each other stories about the roles that our moms have played in our journeys as dancers. it was a moment of reflection that made us really grateful to have had someone who truly cared about our love and passion for dance. so we decided to use our piece as a thank you letter to them. we wouldn’t be doing what we do without their support, and what better way to say thank you then through a dance itself.
the phone/phone call was a concept we decided to incorporate due to all of us currently living away from home and not seeing our moms all the time anymore. it was a bit of a reminder for us to always make time to check in and catch up.
throughout the piece we also layered in audio clips of our moms cheering us on and voicemails of them checking in on us. and while they were maybe not super audible for the audience, they were important for us to hear on stage and were a way for us to make our moms a part of the piece itself.
lastly, a huge thank you to @bufusion for letting us perform such a personal piece on the elements stage. this event means so much to the east coast dance community and we’re so honored to have been welcomed into it this year
love,
narratiiiv

narratiiiv, chapter v: it’s not always easy to look back and understand how far you’ve come. in under two years, we’ve built and accomplished so much—five sets, eight performances—and our biggest opportunity is just ahead of us.
but with that has also come doubt. imposter syndrome, second-guessing, all of it. it makes it hard to fully take in all the love, support, and opportunities that have come our way. those feelings don’t just disappear. but the one thing that’s always grounded us is each other. that support is what gets us through, every time.
this piece is a reflection of our journey so far. it’s about looking back at everything we’ve done, not with confusion or disbelief, but with pride and gratitude. the visual of uncovering our eyes represents finally taking it all in, seeing clearly, and allowing ourselves to be proud of everything that’s come our way and of what’s yet to come.

i made this because it felt good. recently i've been weighing possibilities that i know are long gone, that i even wished away with conviction, and i felt this song truly embodied those frustrations you feel within when you've said goodbye to someone you love. sometimes you want it back. sometimes it doesn't call out for you anyway. but hey, slap your head on the desk enough times and maybe it'll go away.
