Not a building— a system. A bamboo pavilion that grows, shifts, and reorganizes itself around people. What begins as a simple module becomes a classroom in the morning, a marketplace by afternoon, a waiting space by evening. Not by redesign, but by arrangement. This is vernacular thinking at work—where architecture is not fixed, but responsive. Where space is defined less by walls and more by use, rhythm, and community. The module becomes a unit of possibility, expanding and contracting with need. Built in bamboo, it leans into what the climate already offers—lightness, breathability, shade. It doesn’t fight the environment, it works with it. Open where air needs to move, shaded where people gather, adaptable where life is unpredictable. It rethinks permanence. Not as something rigid, but as something continuous—able to evolve without losing identity. An architecture that doesn’t impose, but supports. That doesn’t dictate, but listens. Familiar in language. Contemporary in expression. Endlessly adaptable by design. • #vernaculararchitecture #bamboodesign #africandesigns

@eperu_magala what a a guy! The interview says it all. A master. A professional. And perhaps even best; a decent man. Eperu was my first contact when it came to setting up our pavilion. And it was the only contact we needed. Works diligently, and more importantly guides with precision and a smile on his face. A creative whose creativity knows no bounds. I couldn’t thank him enough. E.P man, you made this happen.

So this is Aida. • Aida was a massive part in organising and operations for @nairobidesign_ . She had a very busy schedule and you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that we recorded this as one of the last videos during this specific day. She was tired, but still managed to say a yes to be part of this. And for this, we’re super grateful! From organising at Baba Dogo, and running to the different events, she made so much from so little. Indulging this cameo at our pavilion. Thank you Aida!

Moses. A hero in his own right. • So Moses wasn’t only part of the @nairobidesign_ team that helped set this up - he was also the first person we interviewed in this space. Charming. Well dressed and well very much well spoken. It’s like he came prepared for this situation, you’d be surprised at how impromptu this was. We’re all so grateful we could be part of this, imagining the space, to eventually seeing it created, and then have genuine conversation under it. This is largely what it’s all about. @diba_studios @eastafricaarts

𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓮𝔃𝓮 𝓕𝓪𝓫𝓻𝓲𝓬 𝓕𝓪𝓬𝓭𝓮 JASIRI means /Bold/. JASIRI positions ourselves at the interjection of heritage and innovation. The freeze fabric identifies as an architectural phenomenon of atmospheric factors, frozen within time. A gust of wind. A row of waves - manifesting physically, and materially on a tensile fabric. What does the process look like ? Ideating starts with a sketch. Modelling with Rhino preceded GPU real time rendering, and finally post production. The process doesn’t change, it just evolves. And we aim to evolve with it - whilst staying true to our heritage. That’s where Heritage comes in. The last 4 slides display the process in Rhinoceros 3D, in real time. • #rhinoceros3d #rhinoceros #jasiristudio

Dawn over Mount Kenya — children’s laughter echoing through the mist, beadwork catching the first light, and ancestral rhythms woven into a modern dream. This is a reimagined Kikuyu village — not as nostalgia, but as a living vision of what culture can look like in the future. Where tradition doesn’t fade — it evolves. Where the spirit of community is felt in every path, every garden, every shared sunrise. Kenyan identity deserves to be visualized — not just remembered. • #africanculture #archistudio #héritage #unescoheritagesite #giraffedwg #kenya

HISTORICAL: A caravan of Swahili merchants, having braved the vast and precipitous craters of Kĩrĩma Kĩrĩnyaga, arrives to parley with the Agĩkũyũ. Their encampment now rises against the highland winds — a prelude to a prosperous season of trade. • #africanheritage #agikuyu #swahili #giraffedwg #mountkenya

A set of Technical and Abstract Drawings: Renders, and Illustrations generated from the ‘Pneumatic Pavilion’. They detail simple construction techniques and dimensions- a section, an isometric projection, whilst also conceptually detailing the purpose, interpretation, main impression of this project. The Pneumatic Skin - ‘Cocoon’ is an idea that thrives on conceptual revelation and practical engineering. The core of this concept is that of the cloud, or a puffer jacket. Whilst serving as a space that COCOONS its inhabitants - providing shelter, it simultaneously strikes out as a cloud within its immediate environment. ☁️ Framed by steel or aluminum, and held up by continuous air flow at pressure to keep afloat the ETFE Cushions, it is grounded on a concrete slab by Robust Bolting Systems. The main attraction, the Pneumatic-Tensile Membrane, is made up of Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylne (ETFE) cushions. A translucent polymer that is extremely light, durable, UV-resistant and potentially self-cleaning. This system would require one or more small blowers using a dedicated Air Handling Unit (AHU) - to maintain its shape, stiffness and structural integrity. Welcome to unique “cloud” BOLD architecture. • #inflatablearchitecture #jasirimeansbold #archistudio #architecturaldesigners

Francis Kéré was born in Gando, a small village in Burkina Faso with no electricity, no clean water, and no school. Against all odds, he became the first African to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize — the highest honor in architecture. But his story is not just about recognition. It’s about purpose. Kéré believes architecture should serve people. That buildings should respond to place, climate, and culture. That design should be inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in community. He built his first school using local clay, not concrete. He invited villagers to help build it with their own hands. It wasn’t just a building — it was a symbol of what was possible. Since then, his work has spanned continents, but his philosophy has remained grounded: architecture is not about monuments; it’s about people. Francis Kéré is a reminder that creativity can rise from scarcity, that dignity can be built with earth, and that architecture, at its best, can be an act of care. • #kerearchitecture #franciskere #africanarchitecture #pritzkerprize
