In the intro to her new book, “City of Angels: A Book About L.A. Style,” @jasibenjamin writes: “What happens in Los Angeles does not stay in Los Angeles,” referencing the immeasurable and often uncredited influence L.A. has had on fashion and culture around the world. The book features over 120 photographs of L.A. icons in front of meaningful locations — from Tropical Juice in Highland Park to the Jewelry District. Flipping through “City of Angels” feels like going through the ultimate L.A. yearbook, where everybody wins “best dressed.” Part of the excitement is spotting how many people you know, charting L.A.’s creative communities as an interconnected web. CITY OF ANGELS 🪽. Is in @gq ! I’m so grateful that my love letter to LA is out in the world! My favorite city and my favorite people 😊. THANK YOU to everyone who believed in my vision and participated in my biggest creative project to date! @cityxofxangels out everywhere MAY 22 📅 ✍🏽 @tylerwatamanuk 📸 All photographs by me Benjamin spent three years working on the project, driving across the far-flung and lesser-known corners of the city with her camera. Along the way, she photographed everyone from Fear of God designer @jerrylorenzo and multitalented musician @Thundercat to actress @laurenlondon and contemporary artist Lauren Halsey @summaeverythang . Plus, a book’s worth of well-dressed locals ranging from a filmmaker in West Adams to a Hawthorne-based stylist to a curator from South Central. Impressively, Benjamin taught herself photography along the way. By trade, she is a professional stylist and costume designer; over the years, she’s dressed the likes of Donald Glover, OutKast, Anderson .Paak, and Miguel. (Remember Miguel’s pivot into a masterful mix of sharp tailoring with a rock ‘n roll edge during his “Kaleidoscope Dream” era? That was all Benjamin.) City of Angels captures the oft-overlooked style of Los Angeles, a robust collection of individuals and fashions that manages to do the near-impossible task of synthesizing the multicultural style of a sprawling metropolis. Fashion trend forecasting was my favorite class in college 🤓 another one for GQ check out my take on 2026 men’s trends 👇🏽 Jasmine Benjamin believes the capital-S Suit will continue its upward trajectory in 2026. “Men are ready to dress up again—but for everyday life, not just special occasions,” she says. “The suit is more than having a moment. It’s becoming a uniform again.” For Benjamin, tailoring in the year ahead is less about rigidity and more about range. Think suits that play with texture, pattern, and contrast: beige jackets paired with black trousers, blazers with jeans, striped Oxford shirts, and ties bold enough to show some personality. And if the suit is poised for a big year, Benjamin expects its supporting cast to step into the spotlight as well. “Ties are in a fun era again,” she says, also predicting a return of tie clips and cufflinks as serious contenders in the accessorizing conversation.
