This afternoon, here in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, a three alarm fire tore through an apartment building across from the local park.
As I stepped out of the subway nearly four blocks away, the entire street was already swallowed in smoke. I looked up to see thick black plumes stretching into the sky and knew the fire had to be close. With three film cameras hanging off my shoulders, I ran straight toward it, arriving just as the last of the flames were being knocked down.
I burned through three rolls of film before sprinting back across the park, crashing through my apartment door to grab my digital camera, then heading straight back out again. These photographs are only a small portion of today’s coverage of the brave men and women of the FDNY as they battled a fire that consumed three separate apartments.

This evening, May 6th, 2026, protest followed suit behind demonstrations outside billionaire paid MET Gala on Monday night as members of @risenresistnyc gathered on the steps of the New York Public Library with a show of force against the greed of billionaires that feed off the working class.
As well as a show of support for the working class, the demonstration was also a protest against the Manhattan Institute, “…a far right think tank that produces facist propoganda” says @50501ny as protesters marched to the Institute’s annual gala of billionaires.
Under cloudy skies and light rain, demonstrators gathered outside the Brooklyn Navy Yard at 11:30 this morning to protest Crye Precision, the tactical gear manufacturer headquartered within the complex.
Crye Precision supplies head-to-toe military and tactical equipment widely used by Tier 1 military units, federal agencies, and law enforcement domestically and abroad, including ICE.
The demonstration comes in the wake of a high-profile incident this past Saturday night, May 2nd, 2026, in which a Brooklyn resident was kidnapped and hospitalized following a confrontation between civilians, NYPD officers, and ICE agents that left multiple bystanders assaulted.
“We have an obligation to build the capacity and militancy to respond to and prevent these kidnappings, and to kick ICE suppliers like Crye out of NYC,” said @dbny.now_backup , urging fellow New Yorkers to make their voices heard outside Crye Precision’s headquarters.
What began as a peaceful protest briefly escalated when an individual emerged from the building and began antagonizing demonstrators. Shouting profanities and making his grievances known before retreating down the block. Organizers continued the protest peacefully following the incident.
For the last five years, I’ve been working on my ongoing project SOULS IN AN URBAN LANDSCAPE here in New York City.
Throughout my time documenting the city, things have changed drastically, and yet still managed to stay exactly the same.
The idea behind this book stems from human connection or lack thereof.
I put together this video as a reminder that we are more alike than different. That we are more connected than we may believe. That it is up to us as individuals to be the change we hope to see. Empathy, kindness, resilience, care for those that are unlike us in color, faith, and appearance.
The background audio is from my documentation of the Jake Lang Anti Muslim protest. A reminder to us what the sounds of bigotry, and those that oppose it may sound like in the wake of standing up for the rights of those unlike us.

After an eventful weekend photographing protests I needed a break from public demonstrations and hit the streets yesterday.
Mondays are always busy days on 6th Ave so I spent some time waiting around on corners near the diamond district, Bryant Park and 5th Ave filling up a roll of @kodak 160 before stopping by @nicefilmclub to get them developed the same afternoon.
