We’re heading out to sea this #WorldMaritimeDay 🌊 to share our work on
@amcthewalkingdead Daryl Dixon Season 3, created by David Zabel.
This pivotal scene was shot out on the water, with Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, and
@stephenmerchant surrounded by blue screens.
From there, our MPC team conjured the turbulent, stormy sea you see on screen today. 60 VFX shots built the scene: water and wave simulations in Houdini, cloud and storm composition and generation. The merging of the VFX enhancements with the real-life ocean and boat works to heighten the drama, for the actors and viewers alike.

À l’occasion de la Journée Mondiale de la Mer 🌊, nous sommes heureux de vous partager notre travail pour la série The Walking Dead : Daryl Dixon saison 3, créée par David Zabel.
Pour cette séquence en mer, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride et Stephen Merchant sont bel et bien sur l’eau pendant le tournage, entourés de fonds bleus. Nos équipes ont fabriqué plus de 60 plans VFX avec entre autre des simulations d’eau et de vagues avec Houdini, ainsi que l’incrustation et la génération de nuages et tempêtes, sous la supervision de Mathieu Legros, MPC VFX Supervisor et Yann Nivet, MPC VFX Producer; avec la collaboration de Jao M'Changama, Overall VFX Supervisor, Justine Paynat-Sautivet, Senior VFX Producer, et Sébastien Voisin, VFX Producer.
La combinaison du bateau réel et des ajouts VFX rend la scène plus immersive pour les acteurs et les spectateurs. Un grand merci à Augustin Chastel de Belloy chez LEFT et à AMC Networks pour leur confiance.
