Sonny Hall, a poet and author of three books—The Blues Comes with Good News (2019), On the Soft Edge (2024), and Double Double, due out this year—has recently expanded his practice into visual art. Known for a body of work that navigates introspection and emotional clarity, Hall describes painting as a necessary shift: “I chose to paint because I had become too analytical.”
Unlike Hall, whose experience with writing enabled him to unravel and organize the “madness” of his mind, artist Jan Melka finds words to be an unlikely medium of expression.
A French-American artist based in Paris, approaches her practice through movement and lived experience. Working with a portable studio and without fixed attachments, she continues to develop a body of work shaped by travel and residencies. She recently presented a solo exhibition in São Paulo and has just returned from a residency in Bergamo. Her current series will culminate in a solo exhibition in Paris at the end of 2026.
