As we close up Women’s History Month, I am excited to share that my company celebrates 10 years on July 13th. And as I think about my journey to get to this point I am grateful to all the women who support, respect, inspire and love me fully. When Andre was 7 he started learning to play the trumpet in school. I went a step further and took him to the Jazz Standard in NYC where they would teach kids during the week how to improve on their instrument and then they would perform for the crowd at Sunday brunch. Andre was terrified but then a bright talented musician named Jelani was introduced to us by one of the instructors. Every week I would bring Andre to have private lessons with Jelani. And then I found out he was born in New Orleans!!!
He has traveled the world and now shares this documentary of his family’s legacy in music and activism. “The past, present and future exist simultaneously” Bravo Jelani. @lani_b_supreme

Most people don’t know that my event career launched from my fashion career at Macy’s ⭐️ I led events in bridal, cooking and juniors.
Enter Lil Bow Wow…..my worst event ever. This is early 2000s when the only way to read up on celebs is newspaper or magazines. He was brought in by a magazine partner to do a performance and autograph signing if you purchased that clothing brands product. Well during his performance, he decided to throw his head band into an audience of not only screaming kids but adults (women!!!) and that didn’t go over well. The floor was already packed. He was rushed away by his security team once fans rushed at him. That meant no signing cause he left 👀
Fast forward to Monday I had dinner with former colleagues at Macy’s and as we reminisced, they told me that security measures were increased after my event. That this event became the gold standard for future events there 😩😩😩
I bring this up bc I saw that he’s in concert with some other folks soon and I recognize that the event trauma is real. The lawsuits…maaaaannnn this was it!!!! In this article I share how I navigated an unbearable experience…I quit! There have only been two instances in my entire career where I quit a client or project. Not because I couldn’t do it but because enough is enough. We learn how to get the gig, how to keep it but never how to quit it. As #eventprofs we are tasked to make it happen but at the expense of everything— including our well being. At this stage in my career I’ve learned to put myself first and my integrity. The last few days were busy with venue walk thrus. Usually I like to go on my own before bringing a client by if I have some lead time. When finding venues I have to think of the groups size, brands vibe, location, F&B…but I also look at flexibility. Is the venue point nice to work with.
What are some of the things you look for when selecting the perfect venue? New? Budget? It’s not as easy as we event producers make it look. Lots of negotiation. And then if it’s a state/city I know nothing about! I was once asked to plan a meeting in Seattle. I started with the CVB. What do you do if it’s unfamiliar parts?

When I saw my bro @martyrock rockin this hat I knew I had to have it to represent. When you’re from Brooklyn you want everyone to know…no matter where you are in the world. And we are every place!!!
But what’s even more special is that he didn’t even know that I was raised in Ebbets Field. It had me emotional when I opened the box. Seeing Ebbets Field on this hat brought back all kinds of memories—a mix of fun and sadness. Living there was tough / hard but I was surrounded by love of family near me in every building. And a big brother that didn’t play about me. Nor did Narci…I know most of my strength comes from all that.
