It’s a milestone month for Jana Musselwhite Photography — May marks 10 years since I photographed my first wedding as a second shooter, and 4 years since saying “goodbye” to my counseling career to pursue photography full time. And as I think about the past decade of work, I’m struck by just how much has changed, and how little has changed at all!
Film photography still captivates me like nothing else. I’m still an absolute sucker for a black and white photo. I still believe a photography experience should be as effortless as possible, that how people are treated and listened to is just as important as the quality of work they receive, and that serving others is the true secret to success in business. I’m still humbled by the way happy tears flow during a ceremony when I’ve only spent a few hours with a couple (at most!). I still think a collection of wedding photos is at it’s best when it’s peppered with the unexpected. And I still wholeheartedly believe that grateful clients are the best clients.
What a joy to make a living documenting love. I hope this business and I have many more years ahead of us 🤍
P.S. the very last slide is from that very first wedding, ten years ago at Pursell Farms before they built their wedding venue! I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful, magic-filled place to kick off a career (if you’ve been, you know!)
From the archives - Lexie and Travis’s wedding at Lexie’s family home. One of the most colorful weddings I’ve photographed to date, and incredibly special because it took place at home. I’m sure Lexie woke up on her wedding day and looked out her bedroom window to see her reception tent and ceremony site, waiting for the day’s celebrations.
