Awards Day was great today. Our boy, Kyrie Rencher Hicks, won the 6th grade Trendsetter Award. It was definitely a tough speech for me to get through, but there was so much love and support in the room.
He is not physically present with us anymore, but I’m sure he was beaming and looking down on us with that GREAT SMILE!! The award was given to his mom, Karnisia Hicks, on his behalf. She received his trophy, an exclusive pair of airbrushed AF 1’s by the best airbrush designer in the country Erica ‘Erica B’ Bryant, & a “Memory Book” made by one of our 6th grade Trendsetters, Norah Tanner. The award from this point on will now be the “Kyrie Rencher Hicks Trendsetter Award.”
We love you Kyrie!! See ya soon little buddy. 🥹💚💙
Mannn… our girl did her thang at the 5th grade elementary track meet. She set a goal to win the 100 meter after winning 3rd last year. She completed the mission!! The race is below. The top three 5th graders ran a 14 sec 100. Sky ran a 14.18. To put that in perspective, you have to run a 14.25 or better in middle school (7th & 8th graders) to qualify and earn a spot in the Metro Championship. We had TONS of talent our there today. I would love to see them stick with this and from together. They would definitely add to all of the Track State Championships we already have. Thanks to ALL the coaches for making they’re such a great experience for everyone!🙏🏾🫶🏾😎
IM SO PROUD OF MY STUDENTS!! I do my best to create an atmosphere in my class for them to be vulnerable and feel supported by myself, and classmates. I gave them an assignment to deliver a 2 min graduation speech (from 8th grade). Let’s just say there were lots of tears, smiles, claps, and more. I have added a few below (VOLUME UP). They opened up about not being included in friend groups, losing parents & siblings due to illnesses, having to take shots to help with growth hormones, hurting bc dad is not around and more! They were super nervous at first, but after each kid completed the task, they felt more comfortable sharing these experiences. They had to include a quote as well. However, It WAS NOT ALL SAD!!! They thanked God, parents, administrators, teachers, etc. They all wrapped it up in great spirits, and are looking forward to what life has for them in the future. I’m SO PROUD!! Le’Go HMS!
