MAXX KENIF for G146.
Hailing from New Jersey, Maxx Kenif has spent years developing his craft; his creative vision and life experiences have constantly influenced the evolution of his music. After a big start to the year, releasing two installments of the "Ghetto Pop" series, I caught up with Maxx to discuss his creative process, musical development, life on the road and much more. Continuing to apply the pressure with his upcoming project "PL4Y" (Coming Soon), 2026 is set to be the year that the underground's best kept secret finally gets the recognition he deserves.

'KMT' (2025) - JW
‘KMT’ is a response to ISTD’s 2025 ‘Milestones’ brief. It explores the rise, and gradual evolution, of three London based music genres: Grime, Road Rap and Drill. The milestones are presented in chronological order and explore: the moments that turned these local scenes into globally recognised genres, the suppression and censorship of these genres by the police, and the social, economic and political factors that impacted or caused their key milestones.
To convey the DIY nature of these scenes, I developed a unique process for databending typography. These distorted outputs are used to convey the thick layer of static heard on Pirate Radio stations or old home recorded tracks, as well as seen on tape-filmed grime DVDs and music videos.
I was awarded ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers) membership in June 2025 for my submission of 'KMT'.

G146 VOL. 1 (2025) - JW
'G146 VOL. 1' documents the lives of artists emerging from Glasgow’s rising rap music scene, specifically those associated with Stüdio111 ( @studio111io ), located at 146 Crownpoint Road in the east end of the city. The project is led by a 316 page book that features photos and interviews with the artists, and is supported by a documentary and items created for the project’s launch event. The visual identity was inspired by the Crownpoint building’s rich history of industry and design, originally operating as John Lyle & Co’s carpet factory.
The book includes an additional foreword section in conversation with FTB XAN ( @xan_margera ), discussing his own journey as an artist and the rise of the Plugg movement during the 2010s; looking into how local scenes become global movements.
