In Third Space, we present the work of Anisa Nachett.
Her practice is shaped by movement. Between London and Morocco, between Architecture and Art, between different ways of understanding material and form. Rather than trying to resolve these positions, she works within them.
Trained as an architect, she moved from drawing towards making. Not to execute a predefined idea, but to discover through the process itself. In her work, the hand is not a tool, but a way of thinking.
This results in forms that feel both familiar and unfamiliar. Not fixed, but open to interpretation. That sense of in-between connects her work to Galerie Poche. A small space, positioned between inside and outside, where different perspectives meet.
A number of custom-made vases are still available.

Looking back at the opening of Third Space.
What stood out was how naturally the work invited people to look closer. From a distance, the forms appear solid and contained. Up close, they open up, revealing an interior.
Anisa Nachett’s work is deeply process-driven. Drawing from architectural language and Moroccan zellige, she creates forms through making, allowing material and gesture to guide the outcome. By cutting into these forms, she reveals what lies within. What may seem like absence becomes something intentional, a space full of meaning.
During the opening, you could see this in how people moved through the space. Slowing down, circling the pieces, looking again. That layered quality was not only present in the objects, but also in the conversations around them.

Wednesday, April 8 is the final evening of Along the Wall.
A last opportunity to experience the work of Rida Tabit and to meet the artist in person. He will be present in the gallery, visiting from Morocco, open to conversation and exchange.
Walk through the exhibition one more time, ask questions, share perspectives, and take part in the dialogue behind the work.
We close the evening together with a drink, making space for the next exhibition.

On July 9th, Galerie Poche hosted the artist talk Stories Between the Stones at Soho House Amsterdam, featuring Moroccan photographer Rida Tabit.
Rida shared the story behind his series Along The Wall, capturing life around the Medina wall in Marrakech – a place shaped by time, people and everyday presence.
In conversation with @jamarchitecten , curator @emmawaslander and @minaabouzahra , and moderated by @rubiahbalsem , the talk explored how built environments carry layered human stories.

1949 - 2025
Het voelt nog steeds onwerkelijk dat Rudolf van den Berg op zaterdag 12 juli zo plots is overleden. De avond ervoor hebben we nog uren samen doorgebracht, in wat mogelijk zijn nieuwe woonplek aan de Amstel zou worden. Hij vroeg om mijn mening en mijn advies. Maar ik denk dat hij stiekem ook een beetje op mijn goedkeuring hoopte, omdat hij dan het huis dat ik had ontworpen zou verlaten. We hadden het huis die avond in onze hoofden al helemaal ingedeeld en ingericht. Mina zou de kleuren voor de muren en gordijnen nog bepalen. Ik spoorde je aan ervoor te gaan.
We hebben ter plekke nog plannen gemaakt voor een nieuw project samen. Een mini-speelfilm in mijn nieuwe kantoor. Die zou 11,5 gaan heten, met een knipoog naar Fellini. Jij had net de opnames van Spinoza, je elfde film, afgerond. Moedervlekken zou de twaalfde moeten worden en 11,5 zou iets tussendoor zijn. Acteurs en crew had je al bedacht. Bij de Magere Brug namen we afscheid en je riep me nog na: “11,5!” Die avond stuurde je ook nog een berichtje, met een foto van jou op de set van Spinoza. Helemaal in je element. “Goed en leerzaam om met jou door het huis te dwalen. Nu nog even 11,5 opstarten… Leuk plan!”
We leerden elkaar kennen toen je het appartement kocht dat ik voor de vorige eigenaar had ontworpen. Je stuurde een mailtje om me te laten weten dat je het zo’n fijn huis vond en ernaar uitkeek om erin te trekken. We kenden elkaar niet. Zo heb ik je leren kennen: genereus, open en nieuwsgierig naar de mensen om je heen. Ook naar mensen die je helemaal niet kent, maar die iets gemaakt hebben wat je kennelijk heeft geraakt. In de loop van de jaren leerden we elkaar beter kennen en raakte ik steeds meer aan je gehecht. Als we elkaar zagen, konden we uren over van alles en nog wat praten. Over kunst, literatuur, maar ook over film en architectuur.
Ik ben blij dat we vorig jaar zo’n gesprek nog eens hebben vastgelegd in een podcast. Als het moment daar is, deel ik dat graag.
Lieve Rudolf, we gaan je heel erg missen en ik zal nog vaak aan jou en je wijsheid denken. Mina en ik denken aan jou, aan Eva, aan je dochters en aan iedereen die nu zonder jou verder moet.

We’re excited to present Along The Wall, a solo exhibition by Moroccan photographer Rida Tabit opening to the public on July 6th.
In his ongoing series Tabit explores the Medina wall of Marrakech. Through intimate photographs, he captures the cities daily life along this historic structure. Presented at Galerie Poche, a space inspired by the architectural concept of the “poche”, Tabit’s work finds a perfect home.

24, what a ride!
Begin van het jaar kondigde ik 2024 aan als het jaar van vieringen. M’n 50e verjaardag, 25 jaar architectentitel, 25 jaar JAM* architecten en 5 jaar samen met Mina Abouzahra. Bovendien betrokken we het afgelopen jaar zowel een nieuw huis (NDSM) als een nieuw kantoor (Tolhuiskade) in Amsterdam-Noord. Om het feestjaar met gepaste trots te markeren, heeft Kees Hummel mij recent (weer eens) vastgelegd. Deze keer in mijn nieuwe habitat.
Met het einde in zicht kijk ik terug op een intensief jaar. Met vele hoogtepunten, maar natuurlijk ook minder mooie momenten. Zo heeft het drukke jaar vol verbouwingen en verhuizingen ook wel een wissel getrokken op de ‘work – life balance’, biedt de markt voor architectenbureaus nog steeds de nodige tegenwind en hebben we in 2024 ook afscheid moeten nemen van een aantal bijzondere mensen. Toch ben ik vooral dankbaar voor de inspirerende, hartverwarmende en bij vlagen emotionele momenten die ik heb beleefd met de mensen om mij heen.
En 2025? Dan gaan we vol inzetten op de creatieve energie die borrelt op onze nieuwe plek in Noord, gaan we zo veel mogelijk verblijven op het Afrikaanse continent en gaan we ‘work’ en ‘life’ beter in balans brengen. Vanaf januari zullen Mina en ik ook vaker in Marrakesh te vinden zijn. Te beginnen met de jaarwisseling en eind januari alweer, tijdens de opening van Mina’s nieuwe tentoonstelling in Palais Bahia. Ook gaan we in 2025 de samenwerking met onze Zuid-Afrikaanse partners nader invulling geven, vanuit onze kantoren in Kaapstad en Johannesburg.
Het wordt vast weer een intensief jaar. Het wordt ongetwijfeld weer hard werken. Het wordt weer onzeker en ook spannend. Maar deze keer wel afgewisseld door momenten van rust en reflectie. En ik hoop wederom een hoop mooie momenten te vieren in het gezelschap van bijzondere, dierbare mensen. Ik wens iedereen een mooi, uitdagend, gezond en inspirerend 2025!
